"Less is more". You don't have to comment on everything all the time. The more you talk, the more likely you are to say something that will be used against you. Meanwhile, there is plenty of work to do. Maybe spend less time in front of the cameras. I think sometimes all the media attention is very tempting.

You know, I say this from experience. I can think of many times when I talked too much and said things I later regretted. That is when I have to remind myself that "less is more", like in, less talking and more listening and/or doing.

Mon Aug 2, 2021, 09:54 PM
Aug 2021

She was elected to Congress with the desire to make lives better for people and enact change. She has seen bill after bill pass with less than 20% of Republicans voting in favor and often with no Repubs voting for it, especially on super important bills. Then she looks over at the Senate and sees Manchin and Sinema wanting bipartisan support (which requires 20% of the Republican Senate) and seeing bills in the Senate fail or not even come up for a vote because of that ridiculous threshold not even coming close to being met. She sees Senators not wanting to help people or to enact change. Instead, she sees nonsense and fantasies being peddled instead of reality.

Now, she sees a handful of Dem House members who refuse to pass another eviction moratorium bill for ridiculous reasons. Why shouldn't she be mad?

I say "Go, AOC!". Keep speaking out.

I've made my views of Machin and co. quite clear. I don't have ire for AOC, but I don't Stan her either. I agree with some things she does and disagree with others. Her use of the press in this situation is among the things I disagree with.

I don't recall a time that she hasn't going to the press, even from the very beginning.

That is the context of her complaints about her fellow House members. If her peers in the House would have supported renewing the eviction ban, she would not have taken her case to the press. The only reason the ban extension was not brought up for a vote in the House is because enough Dems opposed it where it would not pass. AOC is right on the money with this one. Besides, the House had already gone into recess and the ban had expired when she went to the press. I suppose those are just inconvenient facts.

138. Nina Turner's loss in Ohio means Biden doesn't need to keep caving to the left
Wed Aug 4, 2021, 11:50 PM
Aug 2021

This race has some interesting implications. AOC and the squad demanded that OH11 voters send Nina Turner to bolster their power to block President Biden's plans. It is clear now that Joe Biden is the face of the Democratic Party

Shontel's victory over Nina and the Squad is important in that it gives Joe Biden more flexibility

That’s what makes Shontel Brown’s upset victory on Tuesday in an Ohio special election so refreshing. She beat Nina Turner, the epitome of smashmouth-style liberalism, in a Democratic primary to fill the House seat vacated by Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia L. Fudge.

Brown prevailed by embracing President Biden — and celebrating his brand of incrementalism. “This is about making progress, and sometimes that takes compromise,” she said during her victory speech in a Cleveland suburb. “Because when you demand all or nothing, usually you end up with nothing.”....

Biden has to be attentive to the left, given Democrats’ slim House majority. But Tuesday’s results suggest he doesn’t need to contort himself to placate the party’s progressive wing — as he’s doing with the extension of the eviction moratorium — as much as they demand or he has often deemed necessary.....

Fear was another motivation for CBC leaders. They privately worried a Turner victory would embolden additional radicals to launch primary challenges against incumbent Black lawmakers in 2022. What happened to Lacy Clay in Missouri remains top of mind. The 10-term congressman, whose father co-founded the CBC, was defeated in a primary last summer by activist Cori Bush, who had the support of Sanders and the Democratic Socialists of America.

And that may be the real significance of the Ohio results. They show the leader of the Democratic Party is not Sanders or AOC. It’s Biden. And he should start acting like it. At least he can count on Shontel Brown’s vote.

I remember back in 2019 when people, even from the Bronx, were directed to the Corona (Queens) office once it was open for issues.

NY-14 is one of the poorest districts in NYC, if not the state. Anyone know what it costs to go from the Bronx to Queens?

If you're lucky enough to have a car the bridge toll is $20+ round trip. If you have to take public transportation the round trip fare is $5.50 and about a 90 minute trip each way (3 hours round trip).

Great way to treat one's POOR constituents.

Joe Crowley had fully functional offices in both boroughs - Queens and the Bronx.

Millions are in danger of losing their homes. Moderate Democrats opposed the extension.

But AOC gave an interview. That's the real problem here!

Millions in danger of losing their homes, moderate Democrats were no help at all, but a progressive politician some people dislike said something somewhere, and let's spend all our focus and energy on that, damnit.

I feel like I'm openly being trolled at this point. There is no way people do not know how disconnected that looks. "Millions of homeless people? Meh. Shit's going down on cable news and Twitter. Lemme worry about that."

I mean . . . there has to be some self-awareness in here somewhere, right? Just how isolated people are from empathy and reality due to total immersion in social media, because they're comfortable and can afford to be so? Just a teensy bit?

I think people should go spend a week in a shelter, then come back with a straight face and let everyone know how what goes on with cable news and Twitter is the real story here.

Ya think they could address the backlog of release of funds back in the State that sent them there to represent them?

Hmmm.
🙄
Where were their voices this past month when they all knew the moratorium was about to expire? Why'd they wait till now?
Where was their call for urgency or weren't they aware. And why weren't they?

It's not like the looming deadline was a big secret.
There's really no one to blame but themselves
They should maybe in touch with their State doing all they can to see that those billions in funds find a smooth transition into the pockets of those that need it most.

But it's just much easier to sit on it & Blame Biden et al when the shit hits the fan.
Go home & help your State fix it. K?

Friday evening, Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., expressed other frustrations.

“The reason they’re not bringing it for a vote is because some Democrats privately have tried to kill this bill because of special interest of Realtors and other groups,” he said on MSNBC. “And it is unconscionable that we don't have a vote on the House floor, that we're protecting some members to kill this behind closed doors and aren't being transparent. ...but I understand that your pov is influenced in part by this republican tweet you posted which is basically demagoguery twisting what she said into an attack on our party.

Pointing out that our majority has a responsibility to use it to protect our vote isn't an attack on the party, it's an encouragement to do better.

That's basically what we're left with. Knuckle under to Manchin's refusal to confront republicans with our majority, or speak out in the hope that enough pressure will be applied to move him off of his newly invented insistence that republicans need to vote for the legislation.

Why would anyone concerned that our democracy will be evicerated relent in pointing out that we hold the majority today which could act to protect those votes?Of couese , in this case, AOC was complaining about the confounding game of hot potato played between Congress and the WH, both claiming nothing could be done.. until they found a way to do something.

They eventually found a way because of pressure from Cori Bush, AOC, and others who refused to accept that our majority couldn't act, who refused to accept the initial pleas of impotence and pressed on (pressing Pelosi and Schumer to press the WH) until the administration relented.

Biden Calls Out 2 Democratic Lawmakers For Blocking Agenda
The president lamented that Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona “voted more with my Republican friends” than their own party. (AP)

Biden, speaking during an event marking the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa race massacre, responded to critics who question why he hasn’t been able to get a wide-reaching voting rights bill passed.

“Well, because Biden only has a majority of effectively four votes in the House, and a tie in the Senate — with two members of the Senate who voted more with my Republican friends,” he lamented.

It appeared to be a veiled reference to Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, both of whom have frustrated Democrats with their defense of the filibuster — the rule requiring most legislation to win 60 votes to pass, making many of Democrats’ biggest priorities like voting rights and gun control bills dead on arrival in the 50-50 Senate. While Sinema is a sponsor of the voting rights bill that passed the House, known as the For the People Act, Manchin has refused to sign on, calling the measure “too broad.”

Despite the logjam in Congress, Biden promised further action to address what he described as “a tireless assault on the right to vote,” comments that came in response to the latest effort by a state legislature to pass a law restricting voting access, this time in Texas.
