This sounds high to me. Am I behind on things?

(16,159 posts)But the county where I live is full of anti-vaxxers (not just for Covid) and it was reported the other day that only 46% are vaccinated.

(7,847 posts)With Delta it is looking like herd immunity may not be a viable strategy. Certainly we can potentially get regular boosters that account for new variants but the idea that one round of vaccine or a COVID infection gives one immunity is kind of out the window now.
A coworker returned to work yesterday, he had COVID last year, verified with multiple tests. Got vaccinated in January with the Pfizer vaccine. He just returned after getting infected with Delta, all he had was a sniffle and mild fever though.

Good one.

(3,213 posts)But that's not consistent nationally. For example, New England is probably closer to like 90% having at least one dose, whereas Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, etc. are more like 40% have one dose.

(26,507 posts)Shouldn't we be able to predict when 70% are fully vaccinated based on that?

(61,033 posts)Now with the latest surge to get vaccinated because of the delta variant we reached 70% with at least one shot a month later than Joe Biden's original goal date...which was July 4.

(10,969 posts)One shot is not vaccinated.
Two shots is.
Not all people get a second shot for whatever reason (it is a little odd, but people have their reasons).

(28,493 posts)Plus, even one shot of the other two gives pretty decent protection. Better than no shot at all.

(10,969 posts)I wonder how they're parsing that with the data.
Though, J&J is terrible for the Delta variant.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(28,493 posts)I got the J&J and while I'm well aware of "breakthrough" infections, I'm not at all concerned.
If and when the CDC says a booster is a good idea, I'll get one.

Courtesy of Delta and its especially rapacious hunger for hosts, including young people and even going after children.
And the resentment of those who got vaccinated and thought is was almost over.
