General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI actually like AOC and her likeminded colleagues.
We have become so accustomed to the same people doing the same thing forever, it seems.
I like that she is smart and aggressive, very much.
No "but" coming, we need more like her. I could explain why in a different post, I just wanted to make it clear that I am not here to bash her or trash her, unlike many who did nothing but to Hillary.

(39,351 posts)Diligent, sincere, appealing and, for all the hype, very down-to-earth. Not close-minded either. Were lucky to have her in our party.

(436 posts)seemingly approachable, and determined. I know some hate when I say it, but she, and others like her are the future of the Democratic party, and I'm excited for her

(31,106 posts)is on the right side of the issues and she is smart, so I say hell yes, but dont let the GOP use her comments to take votes away from us.
She has to be careful about that stuff.
We need to

(11,254 posts)I've disagreed - but never to the point of vilifying or hating on her. And I always make a point of including that I think she is whip smart and formidable. (and I think she could be a big part of the future ..) What I'm not down with is trashing fellow Democrats or the party. I think that is harmful - as well as, in general, just being poor political tactics - and I will continue to call it out when I see it on her part, or others.

(25,952 posts)She needs a little more experience under her belt, and could be a bit more careful with her messaging and timing. Eventually she's going to accomplish many good things.

(58,605 posts)when it came to actually working in Congress to better the lives of Americans, she has come through. She has said some provocative things but in the end, she has supported progressive causes and ideas and generally been a good Democrat.
The Democratic Party is a big tent and we need some pressure from the left to counter the rightward drive of repubs over the last 3-4 decades. While she pushes hard for the more hard left issues, she also works with others to get things done. Idealistic in her rhetoric, she appears to be pretty practical with her votes.

(11,726 posts)I don't believe in trashing anyone. I think that no one is above criticism but I think that it should be done with a focus on improvement.
The younger generation always challenges the older generation. Funny thing is that I am sure that many on DU who criticize AOC and her cohort of new young House Members are of the generation that "took on the Man" and shouted "Hey Hey, LBJ, how many kids did you kill today...?" and are now chastising people for challenging what has become the "status quo".
Unfortunately, what we have is an internal, generational struggle going on at the same time that one of the 2 viable political parties is descending into fascism, so it seems almost frivolous to have that intergenerational struggle on how far to push against the status quo when there is an existential threat to the country.

(52,126 posts)I thought about writing a lengthy rebuttal in 6 parts on why I strongly disagreed with that other post.
Then I thought, look, this is Eliot Rosewater, I agree with 99.44% of your posts, you invariably get the policy and passion dead on correct. Why get into it, especially because I totally understand the frustration and only disagreed with the specific response.
This post shows not only that you already figured most of it out anyway but also that you had the stones to clarify your position. Not many are capable of that and it says a lot about you

(1,910 posts)She is one of my favorites too, but the flip side is that she is a HUGE rallying point for Repugs. Its crazy how obsessed they are. They fund raise off of her, they get out the vote by telling their supporters she is going to be House Speaker next, etc.
Crazy thing is as much as we love her, their targeting her as the Boogie Man now that HRC is not running might win them back the House.
