Pardon my (kind-of) off-topic rant

For the second day in a row I walked into a gross, disgusting mess in the restroom where I work. WTF is wrong with people? Is it because they don’t give a damn? Is it because they know it’s someone else’s headache to deal with? Would they treat their own bathrooms like that?

I’m angry and ashamed at the total disrespect this shows to housekeeping staff — and how degrading it is. Staff works hard all over the building trying to stay one step ahead of the unhealthy, unhygenic pigs who then trash it. Nobody should have to deal with this. A few weeks ago I posted about an incident where a housekeeper was yelled at because she had the nerve to temporarily close a restroom for cleaning. Yet, they just do their jobs — making things good for the rest of us.

There is really no good excuse for not leaving a place as you found it. I thought about posting a note in the restroom, but those are usually taken down ASAP, and those who need to read it obviously don’t care anyway. I will keep an eye out for the staff, though, and give an apology on behalf of the floor for the unnecessary work we make for them.

Basic respect — what the hell happened to THAT?

Take it up the chain, because simply apologizing to the staff doesn't stop the problem. WhiskeyGrinder Aug 2021 #5

Disrespectfully treated by other staff, who would never do the crappy job with which they must deal day in and day out. When I was working I would do what I could to help out our maintenance crew and tried my best to never leave a mess for them that I at least didn’t help to clean up.

who have no respect for anyone or anything. Most people don't do that, because they know they'll be back in that restroom again before long. A few, however, simply don't care a whit about anyone or anything. They trash places out of unconcern or because they're pissed off about something and think that's the way to demonstrate that.

The only way to find out who is doing this is to check the restroom after each person leaves it. That's a pain in the ass, but it's sometimes necessary to find the culprit, who will need some serious counseling by a superior. Or needs to be fired.

My office shares a floor with a relatively big agency. It would be next to impossible (short of hiring an attendant) to police everyone who goes in and out. I’ve noticed, too, that the housekeeping staff has been coming around at various times of day now, and there have been days when the johns weren’t cleaned up at all. So I guess their staffing situation is bad right now and they’re being stretched to the max. All the more reason to be more considerate.

It’s all clean now, and my deepest respect to the person who had to do it. Sad that some adults have little to no respect for their coworkers or the facilities.

and she brought her 2 young kids. The kids came into the cabin with muddy shoes and tramped all on the carpet. I was aghast. I knew it would ruin the vacation if I made an issue out of it, but I felt very bad for the cleaning woman.
