Or medical personal.
The unvaxed will be surprised maybe.
Pissed off.
With school starting we looking at a lot of sick kids.
The hospitals are already overwhelmed.

(58,785 posts)own children, but for many believing a Covid hoax is part of an evil Democratic plot has been baked in. You know it's bad when very ill patients sincerely believe hospital personnel are lying to them.
Denial is already getting harder and is about to get much harder. But of course it'll still all be the fault of whoever they fear and dislike. The universal mindless reaction.

(21,528 posts)They believe hospitals are empty and just make up covid numbers to make drumpf look bad.
That will make up their own facts anyways. A lot of these anti-vaxer believe the vaccine kills more people than Covid. You can't reason with crazy.
Mr.Bill
(24,241 posts)the hospitals are full, but they are full of people dying from the vaccine.

(57,073 posts)Or put them in palliative care in empty buildings or tents, as suggested by another DU member yesterday.
Not smart to clog & overwhelm the healthcare system with them.
Accident victims, heart attacks, etc. etc., etc. need space & medical attention they will not get because of the anti-vax hypocrites.
This is so wrong on so many levels.
Like a very poorly written movie script.

No pun intended sort of

Why don't hospitals do this? Is this a legally viable option?

Mr.Bill
(24,241 posts)You will have a hard time getting any health care worker to not offer the absolute best care possible to every patient. Theoretically, a convict gets the same treatment as a Saint. The ugliest it gets is in disaster scenarios when people get triaged. And even then, it's based on who is savable, not who they are.

(63,221 posts)That might have been me, or at least I was one of the people calling for the same.
I am so tired of these horrible, selfish people. I don't think any healthcare worker or institution should be forced to go out of their way to save them. They knew the risks and they took their chances. There is no reason that other innocent people should have to suffer for their ignorance and stupidity.
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)Fully agreed!

(7,510 posts)They should be given close to 100% immunity by booster shots and by booster shots tailored to the new variants.
We also need better drugs for those who do get sick. Something at least as effective as Tamiflu is for flu.
Horse with no Name
(33,956 posts)But it isnt going to be a 3rd dose of the existing vaccine. There is one on the horizon that helps with some of the variants.

(31,781 posts)They can't be sent to NJ. We did this last year. We then took all of the steps necessary to get vaccinated, slow rolled the opening, offices are still doing half team in, half team out . . .
I've put off sinus surgery for 14 months. They can't come fill up our hospitals.
They LAUGHED at us last year. Said we were brainwashed and it was a plandemic.
We can send ventilators - but in the meantime - we've moved on.

(2,146 posts)Call it the contingency plan. If anybody asks, explain that the hospital is saving enough beds for core medical care, L&D, dialysis, cancer treatment, and the emergencies of life like appendectomies. If Covid gets bad enough, all the remaining beds are for patients who can be helped
The tent in the parking lot is for triage. Patients in the best shape can be monitored for a couple hours and sent home to quarantine and self-medicate. Patients who might be treatable wait for a bed to become available. And patients who are simply too sick for the hospital to provide heroic care for, get sent behind a divider and checked every hour or so
Put the tents in the parking lot now as a warning. Then, hope the warning is heeded and we never have to use them

(2,962 posts)My Grandfather said when he was wounded in WW1 in France the Army set up death tents for those with the Spanish Flu.
Big tents.

(23,218 posts)He's been on target throughout this entire Pandemic.
As for the CDC, they knew Delta was a VOC (variant of concern) but only labeled it a VOI (variant of interest) for far too long. The WHO even called Delta a VOC for a good month prior to the CDC.
I've lost trust in the CDC after Walensky was on the MSM crying for what was about to come and then did an about face shortly thereafter with the horrible mask recommendation.

(16,305 posts)By the time of this writing, Feigl-Dings thread has roughly triple the likes and retweets of Jabrs. This is one of the realities of the current information ecosystem: While out-and-out conspiracies and hoaxes will draw some attention, its really the stuff thats close to the boundaries of discourse that grabs the most eyeballs. That is, the information thats plausible, and that fits into a narrative mounting outside the mainstream, gets the most clicks, likes, and retweets. Bonus points if its sensational or something that someone might want to censor. After all, which is more interesting: HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, or the essential data are still being collected and assessed, as Jabr ended his thread?

(19,959 posts)In a supply and demand system they just raise the price of everything through the roof to reduce demand, right? Isn't that why the U.S. health care system is what it is? So the fat cats can get whatever they want whenever they want it?

Louisiana just had to shut down some Emergency Rooms so they could move staff from there to the ICU wards.
Texas is so full, Houston (which has the largest medical complex on Earth), had to fly an 11-month old girl 150 miles away to get treatment for Covid.
