(76,119 posts)It says, in the lede "...he once ran...".
He never worked for XPO. Not for a single day.
ProfessorGAC
(76,119 posts)DeJoy never worked for XPO.
He ran a pipsqueak logistics firm called New Breed.
XPO wanted to expand their presence in the southeast, and felt it was more efficient to buy New Breed to gain an instant foothold, & build new warehousing later.
When XPO took over, they sent DeJoy packing. No management role, no consulting contract, no transition period.
One day XPO took over, and DeJoy was sent packing.
While DeJoy had stock in New Breed, XPO would not give him matching value on his shares.
Of his piece of the sale, half was cash, half was XPO stock.
This left him with too small a piece of the company to be important. He's just another shareholder.
That was all done in a calculated way to get rid of him.
XPO never employed him, XPO never asked for advice, XPO doesn't care about him.
Does he have XPO stock? Yes.
Is that why this deal occurred? No. XPO is a big company with a good reputation and USPS working with them is good business.
DeJoy is an idiot & a jerk. But, this deal is big nothing.

(3,851 posts)As long as we can get rid of him, I don't care how.
Although I believe at least one member's term is up at the end of the year?
ProfessorGAC
(76,119 posts)At all. I think he's a rotten businessman & an idiotic jerk.
But, he can only be dismissed for cause, and holding stock in a huge company over which he holds no influence, isn't cause.
I want him gone, too. But, this cannot be the reason. It's not illegal, and it's not even unethical as nobody at XPO even speaks with DeJoy.
We don't like the look of it, because it's DeJoy. It's easy to look for every wart on a toad like him.
But, having a wart like this isn't going to be the reason he gets launched.
This is like a PG having $20 million in Apple stock, and then harrumphing over the logistics group getting iPhones.
The PG holds zero sway over Apple, and the total value of the contract is miniscule.
If(!!!!) DeJoy, in any way, influenced decisions at XPO, I'd be in complete agreement.
But, XPO has no interest in anything DeJoy does or says.

(3,340 posts)His strategy and lack of competence are the reason to fire him.
XPO is a large corporation that DeJoy lucked into when his former company was bought for being in the right place at the right time. XPO a good logistics company.

(11,676 posts)If he has a dollar invested it is a conflict of interest and we dont need or want the post office privatized

Maybe he never "worked" for XPO but it doesn't matter. They made him a multi-millionaire. And he's in a position to benefit financially every time he gives a huge USPS contract to this company. So you're being disingenuous when you claim DeJoy has no connection.
ProfessorGAC
(76,119 posts)He did not get $615 million.
New Breed was sold for $615 million in cash. No stock transfers.
At the time DeJoy had around $30 million in stock. He took half and bought $15 million in stock, which is a legal hedge against taxes on gains.
He has $15 million dollars of XPO stock, which is under 0.1% of the market capitalization of that corporation. He did not OWN XPO. He owned around 5% of it. So, he did NOT get $615 million.
That link of yours is a mess as well.
One paragraph says his NW is $3 billion, and even he never claimed that. So, that website is pretty questionable.
Lastly, USPS has had contracts with XPO when DeJoy was still running New Breed. They've had contracts together for at least 25 years.
And, this $24 million per year contract with USPS is 0.15% of XPO revenue.
There is nothing disingenuous about reporting facts.
You just don't like the facts.
This story is nothing, and will NOT be the cause that gets DeJoy fired.
Being a crappy strategist ought to be enough cause, but so far it hasn't been.
