Texas official who spurned vaccines dies after Covid-19 hospitalization

https://www.aol.com/news/texas-official-spurned-vaccines-dies-190700070.html

A local Texas politician who appeared skeptical on social media of mask use and Covid-19 vaccines died this week from complications of the coronavirus, the mayor of his community said Friday.

Dickinson Councilman H. Scott Apley's death was first announced Wednesday on the Texas Republican Party's page, which did not detail the cause, but posts on social media about how he had been hospitalized with Covid have underscored a sharp political divide during the pandemic. "I was not really aware of his social media presence," said Sean Skipworth, the mayor of Dickinson, a Houston suburb of about 20,000 people. "I don't agree with the views that he espoused and the tones that he espoused them in."

"I think it's tragic because he leaves behind a wife and young son. My father died when I was very young," he said. "There has been a lot of vitriol, and I'm disappointed about that. He and I didn't see eye to eye on a lot of things. But this is not a time for a victory lap."

It’s a victory in the truest sense of the word. First, he’s no longer urging others to forego vaccination, and second, he serves as a cautionary tale to anyone on the fence about getting vaccinated. Sorry for his family, but the public good outweighs private tragedy.

His death may save many lives.

I've also read that shithole's alien dna doctor proposed an parasite mostly horse drug for the cure to the hoax. Uptick in vaccination among red state's community hit hard.

And yet, republican politicians still have not adhere to the importance of wearing masks, vaccinations, but have a new talking point - "blame the Democrats" for some reason because it's their fault republicans are not getting vaccinated.

You know what's tragic? That he didn't care enough for that wife and young son to protect them. He and his wife both should have been vaccinated to protect their son, if for no other reason. Clearly he thought of no one but himself, but he didn't even think enough of himself to get vaccinated. And he encouraged others to follow his misguided carelessness. The victory lap is because he can't spread his misinformation (and likely his Covid infection) anymore.

I feel bad for the children. They are the innocents in this whole tragic mess.

He also didn't care enough about his wife & young son to take care of HIMSELF so he could be there for them. Let that sink in.

where they're so divorced for reason and logic that they'll literally kill themselves over bullshit politics. Threats like covid use to transcend our political bickering. It's insane. Absolutely insane. I'm left paraphrasing Dickens...."if they are to die, then let them do it quickly and decrease the political consternation." If they won't come to their senses, what else is there?

Encouraging people to vote against their own interest, put their faith in sky spirits, and cheering on suicide. A true paragon of virtue, like most of his brethren.

But apparently it's difficult for some people to acknowledge their own vulnerabilities. They prefer to believe an ego-driven version of themselves as fit and healthy and too strong to be taken down by a virus.

I know better. Being overweight added yet another risk factor to my profile and I got my vaccine as soon as I qualified.

We’re talking about an official, a politician - in short, an influencer who had a soap box and the cred conferred on people by our society simply because a person has achieved some level of celebrity. His death will truly save lives. That’s what would be called a productive out in baseball.
