(1,141 posts)That was more than a bit mean on dads part. Perhaps meant to be cute or loving in acknowledging how difficult it is to loose pregnancy weight, but I certainly wouldnt take it that way.

Mick Jagger says, Hey, you, get off of my cloud!
The Scotsman says, Hey, MacLeod, get off of my ewe!

(22,583 posts)If that sign was in the window of a restaurant near me, I'd eat there every chance I got!
But Texas (like Florida) is at the top of my list of PLACES NOT TO GO NEAR UNTIL COVID IS OVER.
Sorry, Texans, Floridians, et al. It's nothing personal.
It's just that the people running your states right now are loons, and they scare me!

(13,480 posts)As for Texas as a whole, theres a lot to like (winters before this last one), but we have more than our fair share of crazies and many of them are in state government. We are becoming Talibanized a bit every time the legislature meets and decides to pass anti-democratic laws. Thank God the legislature only meets every other year, although Abbott is fond of calling special sessions to pass bills that fail in the regular session. Last time it was bathroom bills, this time its taking away voting rights. My disgust with Republicans grows day by day.

(12,132 posts)And we hope to visit eventually and this place will be on my list to eat at.
I haven't seen my friends and family in many years and the last time was my mom's funeral so I want the next time to be happier. Eating at Ellen's will help toward that goal.

(38,042 posts)...short of some business demand (I did have to go to San Antonio in recent years), would be to visit my niece in Austin. (That is, however, unlikely, and she considers Texas a temporary stop in her career in any case; definitely suffering culture shock, even in Austin.)
If I ever find myself stranded in Dallas more or less against my will; Ellen's will ease the pain. The food looks great and includes lactovegetarian fare, not always easy to find in Texas in my experience.

My beloved Molly Ivins said this about Texas:
"Texas s the national laboratory for bad government."
Oh my god, she is missed.
