After a leaked video forced the Pentagon to reveal they too were asking questions about UFOs, a top astronomer is joining the search for answers. "It's a win-win proposition because even if we find that these aerial phenomena are rare atmospheric effects that are not expected, we learn something new, Avi Loeb, a professor of science at Harvard, told NBC News. If there is something out there, we need to find out.
Why does science have to be boring? Loeb said. Here we are talking about a discovery that would change the history of humanity, so how dare we push it aside.
So hes started the Galileo Project, funded by tech founder William Linton and billionaire Frank Laukien, among others. The research group aims to identify the nature of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) and other interstellar objects such as Oumuamua, which reportedly visited Earth in 2017.
Earlier this year, video of an unidentified flying object was leaked, raising questions that are still unanswered. The video obtained by documentary filmmaker Jeremy Corbell was recorded by the Navy and shows a spherical object flying and darting above the water off the coast of San Diego for several minutes before descending into the ocean.

(30,613 posts)Why not just look into these things? As Loeb says, even if it's some novel atmospheric phenomena, we learn something interesting. We can just look the other way and hope it doesn't happen again. But that's beyond sad, it's dangerously short-sighted.

(415 posts)the UFO phenomenon did not start with these videos. The history of UFOs dates back seventy years, if not hundreds and thousands.
The three above are but a tiny percentage of what has not been released to the public. And only shortened versions of these are available.

(24,470 posts)There are many photos of objects that cant be explained. Its not like they are all published
They are however sent to researchers to research. Most can be explained. Some cant.

Anyway you can believe what you want. Doesnt matter to me.

(5,275 posts)For skeptics I would recommend A video out about the Phoenix Lights episode in Arizona...not put together by kooks but a married couple who were both respected doctors in the area. These werent single sightings, this went on for some time.
To think its just us in the vastness of space seems like a serious long shot. Now how could they travel great distances? Yes there is a speed limit, the speed of light. But warp drive is possible and were working on it now. That is where you shrink the space in front of you and spread it back out behind you. Star Trek anticipated it.
It is seriously doubtful that its just us in the vastness of space. 200 years ago here if you wanted to communicate with someone you had to to it in person or write it down and have it delivered. Now look where we are now.
And caught on tape from one of our astronauts, as clear as day, is the message We still have the Alien Spacecraft under observation. Ive heard it myself on a DVD I have.

(94,670 posts)Almost nobody except religious fanatics believe we're alone in the galaxy. That doesn't change the reality of the immense distances which need to be crossed for an alien civilization to get here, and the apparent inability they have to block radar tracking or visibility.

(15,465 posts)The smartest humans have an IQ of over 200. Imagine an alien race that averages 1,000. Trying to explain it to us would be like trying to explain math to a turtle.

(1,167 posts)then they're obviously created by beings who are significantly more technologically advanced than we are. For such beings, traveling large distances or blocking radar or possessing invisibility might be child's play (the sort of child's play that flying from the U.S. to Europe would be for humans).

(1,167 posts)they do seem to have the ability to block radar and become invisible/wink out of sight. These abilities have been documented by reputable observers. As for why they do it sometimes and don't others, damned if I know. Maybe there are different races of aliens visiting us, and they have different agendas and different technologies. After all, the Romulans had cloaking technology, while the Federation didn't (just kidding here).

(31,261 posts)Why would they risk even the slightest contact with us? Doing so opens up all types of horrors for them, like killer diseases that are endemic to us, but new and fatal for them.
