General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHow the hell can DeathSantis unilaterally cut the salaries of Florida educational school boards and
also the funding overall? The US system of federalism is a constitutional suicide pact at so many intersectional levels IMHO. A glorious laboratory of democracy? More like a Frankensteinian nightmare lab as the Rethugs and their mouth-breathing theocratic fascist hordes of supporters go fully rogue.
Fuck DeathSantis and all the QMAGAt horses he rode his white power arse in on.

(20,200 posts)Donald Trump's most useful tool to take our country closer to autocratic rule.
DeSatan loves to use them at the state level, just to show the MAGAts that he can own the libs just as good as MF45.

The worse he gets the more they love him.
That's the Republican mindset right now.

(2,704 posts)As you have seen, he pivots every day, every time his bluff is called. I don't even think the State Board of Education has anything to do with county salaries. Like the other threat - school funding - no court would allow this anyway.

You don't have the cojones to do it?

(10,896 posts)Republicans constantly cite federalism and the desire to keep political decisions local.
However, instead of letting local school districts decide the issue, especially dependent on what spread rates in the area are, he orders a top-down ideological dictum.
It's a bit like states rights mattering when Democrats control the federal government. Once there's a Republican Congress and President, well, never mind that then.

(14,180 posts)Florida should just secede and set up a dictatorship.
Obviously, no personal offense intended to Florida DUers. DeSantis cant do this, but who will stop him?

(3,126 posts)Yep. That's the core problem and why this country is ultimately unable to
respond collectively to big challenges like climate change and providing excellent
education to all citizens. It worked fine (for white affluents) for so long,
but any other advantages it may have had are gone. We look fucking stupid
next to younger democracies without the Federalist system. I believe
unfortunately (...because as much as anyone else I don't want to suffer) that
it has to utterly fail before it can be fixed. There is no means to fix it
without constitutional amendment and that ain't gonna happen.

Wow, looks like our state asked the federal government for 300 ventilators. We should have them by Monday. I'm betting we'll have the Navy's Covid 19 hospital ship here by the end of the month. I wonder if DeSantis' children are starting school without masks this week.
