Pelosi Statement on Passage of Bipartisan Infrastructure Package
Washington, D.C. Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Senate passed its bipartisan infrastructure package:
Today is a day of progress, as the Senate has passed the bipartisan infrastructure package and paved the way for not only rebuilding but reimagining our infrastructure for the 21st Century Economy.
The leadership of President Biden has seized this once-in-a-century opportunity to Build Back Better for our country. This bipartisan package helps rebuild the middle class as it rebuilds our infrastructure creating good-paying American jobs and turbocharging American competitiveness and growth.
The House will continue to work with the Senate to ensure that our priorities For The People are included in the final infrastructure and reconciliation packages, in a way that is resilient and will Build Back Better.

(15,325 posts)Because their years in this business have collectively accomplished what no jr cries to primary the 'old' ones, could even attempt to do.
I'll take these 'establishment' Dems anyday. When it comes to stepping away from the camera & self promotion it's a relief to know who is doing the hard work, heads down, and who is taking their position & experience serious for the salvation of American Democracy.

Since we're not supposed to support anyone "new" or "fresh", we'll need them to live forever since they can't be replaced.

Waiting for a sign of maturity & a high five to our experienced Democrats from .....😴

Gave up waiting for someone to get off the "establishment is best and ONLY establishment is allowed" schtick.

(15,325 posts)Our Party has many very well educated, hard working, self-respectful junior pols who are positioned to step in where someone retires.
We just don't hear of them because while they've been building legislative resumes & learning skills necesssary to maneuver thru the details of building alliances to bring legislation to passage, (no easy task), they also haven't been demanding nor self enriching of publicity.
Me 1st & lobbing juvenile media insults to demean an entire political group you've named yourself after, isn't exactly an attractive feature when coalition building in the legislative body is the only way to do the work they were sent there to do.
Pay attention maybe.
Biden, Schumer & Pelosi's Democrats brought this one to the table & it is a masterplan. A BFFD.
I applaud the wisdom & skillset it took...

(11,696 posts)Who said there weren't "many very well educated, hard working, self-respectful junior pols"?
Perhaps a response would be better directed toward a poster who actually said a thing instead of one who did not.
But since you mention the topic of publicity, maybe one thing the junior (all, actually) Democratic pols should work on along with the aforementioned skills is media. The corporate media does not help Democrats and that needs to change.
And maybe we should begin to hear of them from time to time, because as they move up they will need to use publicity and media to inform the public and get public support for future things.

(15,325 posts)Media should do us a favor & speak more to them & less to the usual.
There are many bright, well educated & experienced young legislators.
Some carry law degrees.
Some are far mire interested & involved in actual policy writing than others it appears.
Those are the Democrats we need to hear more from.
The usual ones we continuously hear from are becoming redundant in their broad messaging.
These unseen bright minds would be refreshing to hear from.
They are in the trenches along side those 'established' leaders, exchanging ideas for a future & listening to the methids of coalition building, unifying for supporting their policies, appreciating the history of how the Dem Party has carried the American people & avoiding the hurdles encountered by those who walked for years, where they now walk.
There's only one small group offensively advocating for the established Dems to be primaried out of the way.
I'd like to see media speak to those that do work together for a stronger coalition.

(11,696 posts)mean to imply that Biden, Schumer & Pelosi's Democrats are the only ones deserving credit?
Shouldn't anyone in the Democratic caucuses who worked on it and got their supporters behind it get some credit? What about Democrats who held the line that it be "big" and not whittled away and watered down by republicons? Can they have some credit?
Budi
(15,325 posts)I actually don't recall these lifelong experienced Democrats ever being credited at all by those others.
I do hear plenty of statements via media, otherwise tho.
What's up with that anyway?

Shontel Brown will be seated in the House, regardless.

(11,696 posts)She's out. Brown will face a republicon, and probably a typically corrupt one. Shouldn't that be our focus instead of a democrat who's already been defeated?
Budi
(15,325 posts)She thru out a threat to Brown about a big 'announcement ' coming in sept.
What she means by that is anybody's guess but speculation within her own red rose group is that she'll return to run again for Marcia Fudge's seat or do all she can to keep Brown from it.
Note: this is from her own Peepoles Party twitter feed ..
Its a grudge match against the House Dems if anything.
Not helpful at all.

(53,214 posts)the political tagline "Build Back Better". It sounded a little cheesy and overly simplistic, but NOW it seems absolutely perfect. I should have trusted Biden's instincts.
It is still a bit hard to say sometimes though, like a tongue twister.

(24,681 posts)If the House amends it, adding this and that, does it then need to go back to the Senate for 60-vote passage?

(9,238 posts)Infrastructure and the massive budget bill. I think many House Dems wont support the infrastructure bill without the budget bill.
JustABozoOnThisBus
(24,681 posts)... where the odds of getting 60 votes are slim.
If this is the plan, then the Senate just wasted time and breath.
honest.abe
(9,238 posts)The issue is I think is that many Dems are not entirely happy with the infrastructure bill but will vote for it if the massive budget bill has the key provisions they are looking for. I'm no expert on this but that is what I perceive as what is happening. It may not need to go back to the Senate at all.

(58,785 posts)Not the first time by a long shot that she's taken a very hard stand for progressive legislation.
The one that leaps to mind is Pelosi telling President Obama to his face that the house would agree to an ACA bill that included all the provisions in the house bill -- or NO ACA AT ALL. The ACA was Nancy's baby above all, and this was when Biden and senate Dems were afraid they couldn't get the ACA passed and were talking seriously about removing important provisions that were sticking points. That all's why some who were there occasionally admiringly call the ACA Pelosicare.
