Last edited Thu Aug 12, 2021, 05:54 PM - Edit history (1)
A week ago, I took a neighbor to the local hospital emergency after he was warned by the local bus service he had been exposed to Covid and I had purchased a Covid test and administered it to him and drew a positive.
As I drove him to the hospital, he told me he hadn't had the vaccination. For three year, because he has Huntingtons and physical problems, I had coffee with him several times from takeout and when the pandemic got heavy last year, I started making the coffee and bringing it in. We've talked about Covid and we discussed vaxxing. He never said anything negative about masking or vaxxing, he mentioned going to get the vax.
He was diagnosed and given the new infusion treatment, and told because of his clear lungs to go home for two weeks.
The upshot.
On Sunday, after dinner, I got chills and aches that went on for two hours of one of the worst sicks I've ever had. We called VA and were told to go to the local Scott and White hospital. As we were leaving, I felt a need to 'bork', I didn't heave but immediately felt better and off we went.
I explained what had happened, what my symptoms were, and they told my wife to go home and asked me to find a seat.
When we had arrived, the parking lot was full. The waiting room had maybe six - eight people. After an hour and a half of waiting, I noticed no one had been called in, I went to the counter and found out that were not testing for Covid, the beds were filled and that while that were trying to call in personnel from Austin, it was eight to nine hours to triage. That they were sending all "mild Covid" home.
I felt just about normal by this time and called Mrs MFalls to bum a ride.
Yesterday, the friend's brother called to thank me for possibly saving his brother's life. I felt he was rubbing it in when I found out the whole family was unvaxxed.
I told him he needed to thank me for spending at least an hour talking the Constable from arresting his brother two weeks before that.
Now for the worst of it.
I've had a lump requiring a biopsy, that took a lot of finagling to get an appointment for today.
When they asked me if I had had any contact with Covid in the last two weeks, I told the truth.
We were told not to come into the building, to go out to the Covid testing. I got tested and told that results would be ready in 24-48 hours. The Doctor who administered the test was dressed for Ebola.
Two more weeks to sweat whether I have a fourth cancer.
But it gets even worse.
We've been responsible for over a year and a half, and the two times we've broken protocol in the last two weeks have had bad repercussions.
After staying away from church since February 2020, she went back for a retirement part for the music directer two weeks ago. The director and her husband got COVID - last week he went on a ventilator, and six others, including the ninety-year-old lady sitting next to her.
Not one was vaxxed.
I have never felt the rage I do now over all these unvaxxed.

We are back at DEFCON 6, and it will be hard to wring even the faintest drip of humanism from me for a long time.
We made a big mistake trying to "reopen" this country.

(20,049 posts)Hopefully if it was/is Covid you're vaccine kicked it's booty fast. Which sounds like might have been the case here.
I'm sorry about the biopsy being delayed. I know the waiting to know is just awful and now yours is extended.
Keep us posted as to how it all turns out.

So sorry you are experiencing this!!

(910 posts)problem solved
i.e. The out break in P-Town where 45-60 people got breakthrough infections, out of 60,000 that were there (Like 70-80% vac rate)
No deaths (obviously)
Most had symptoms of a head cold
1 hospitalization and they are out

(26,008 posts)Today my county just got put into the CDC "substantial" infection category. The county next to us has been there for a few weeks. The vaccination rate here is only 43% so it will get even worse.
We are not as bad as Florida, Texas, Missouri, or Arkansas. But we also are not a haven for escaping covid.

(38,634 posts)That superspreader event involved 469 cases, 3/4 of which were in fully vaccinated people.

So no, problem not solved. People still need to get their acts together and take steps to protect themselves and others by layers of mitigation.

(169,722 posts)and we are rapidly approaching 2000/day again. A month ago we were averaging just over 200 cases per day.
We have been able to stave it off a bit better than other states but Delta is coming for everyone.

. in the dad care department. No more. With your neighbors Huntingtons, his family could have & should have made sure he was first in line to get vaccinated. And they did not.
Your rage is entirely justified.

I'd give your neighbor with Huntington's a little pass, Huntington's screws up your head as well as your body. There is no excuse for his family except being suckers for preachers, pols, and Pox.
I hope all you had was a norovirus and the new lump is just a lymph node in the process of getting rid of it. Good luck.

(778 posts)It doesn't seem fair, does it? I wish you and your family well and you have every right to have negative thoughts about the unvaccinated. I am also losing my patience with them because this is getting terrible again and it is their fault. I also live in a high infection state and it's scary.

(90,010 posts)Everything you said. Ive lost all patience and understanding for the various reasons and excuses why they dont get vaccinated.
What do they STILL not understand about This-Is-A-KILLER-Disease ?
This is a KILLER disease. It CAN kill you. Its already proved that - more than 600-thousand times, last I heard.

(71,919 posts)... masked. We make them from triple layers of quilting fabric (tightly woven fabric - the best you can buy in cotton) with a pocket for a coffee filter. Always one in my pocket and two in the car. They are washed every day if used. We have at least ten in reserve, and we do hand them out.
They cover almost the entire botton of the face and go under chin, and cut to go up the bridge of our noses which keeps our glasses from fogging.
We've gone into a deep self quarantine since Sunday's medium high quarantine.
We're going to make it.

The first musical 'whoa!' I had was in seventh grade. At a talent show, the Lyme (a band with the Saunders brothers in it) played "Eight Days a Week" at the Simon Perkins Jr High in Akron and it was freaking awesome. That was 1961 and I had no clue a "kid's band' could sound so good.

(17,780 posts)Either way, I know what gets played aloud when my sweetie gets home from work tonight, if she's not too tired to cut a rug, and my feet feel better.
I guess my first memorable 'whoa' moment was Odetta stopping to pet my hair and smile sweetly at me on her way to the stage in a Boulder, Colorado restaurant. I remember thinking she was covering The Animals when she played "House of the Rising Sun."
How little I knew for one who knew so much.

Waiting in line at drive up for a hour made me realize how much my area is getting it, it was one of many places to test.
Still don't know what was wrong some kind of stomach virus.
I was freaked a bit thinking about it though because we leave for 3 weeks at coast tomorrow.

(71,919 posts)... Q said confident about it. Jerks who didn't get vaxxed are all around us, I was nervous for two days waiting for a result, my procedure was delayed by weeks because there people I never knew were so stupid as to not get vaxxed. It's an easy 12. The last crest, I don't think I personally know one person with Covid. This time, I know six, and I know of six more. One of them is around one year old.
