Gov. Abbott is pleading for out of state medical assistance for the explosion of COVID hospitalized patients. He wants us to come in an help him clean up the problems that he alone has created. At the same time he has done nothing and continue to doing nothing. to mitigate the spread and in fact has made Texas the epicenter for the virus along with Florida.
He is literally killing the men, women and children in Texas. Then he has the audacity to call for our medical people to fly in and help him out. Get it through your pea sized brain, there aren't enough medical personnel around to help the likes of you. These people have given, in some cases their last lives to treat the sick while you create more.
Dr. Terrence Coulter, a critical care specialist at CoxHealth, said he and his colleagues were stunned to find themselves back in the trenches after the briefest of respites. With everyone masked, you learn to read the emotions in your co-workers eyes, he said. Theyre weary and theyre also disappointed that the country has started the end zone dance before we cross the goal line. The truth is were fumbling the ball before we even get there.
Americas health care workers are in crisis, even in places that have had sharp declines in coronavirus infections and deaths. Battered and burned out, they feel unappreciated by a nation that lionized them as Covid heroes but often scoffed at mask mandates and refused to follow social distancing guidelines. Many of those same Americans are now ignoring their pleas to get vaccinated.
Doctors and nurses are also overworked, thanks to chronic staffing shortages made worse by a pandemic that drove thousands from the field. Many are struggling with depression and post-traumatic stress; others are mourning at least 3,600 colleagues who wont be around for the celebrations.
People dont realize what it was like to be on the front lines and risking your own safety without adequate protective gear while dealing with so much death, said Mary Turner, a registered nurse in Minneapolis who was unable to comfort her own father as he lay dying alone of Covid in a nursing home in the early days of the pandemic. A few months later, she found herself sobbing uncontrollably in a hospital room as she held up a phone so a man could say goodbye to his father. A lot of us are still dealing with PTSD, she said.

Hey, Greg. Help your state first before you ask others to do it for you.

(20,584 posts)Abbie. You want us to give you free electric this winter too?
Fix your own state, and that fixing starts right between your ears, you doorknob.
The American people are more than happy to help each other, but you can't badmouth everyone else and then expect them to rush to your aid at the drop of a hat.
Get yourself out of your own mess, then we'll give you all the advice and help you need in preventing it from happening again. We told you all if this once, but you didn't listen. You went and did the same (even worse) stupid shit again.

(97,620 posts)They both are epicenters for the virus. Both willfully blocking every sensible protection for their state and believe this is a winning issue? Gee, they going to debate which state was the bestest of them all and loudly proclaim that they killed more of their people than the other and therefore should be President.

(7,016 posts)Create a disaster, blame everyone but your own wretched self and then plead to those youve spent your entire pathetic career trashing-namely those of us who believe the federal government has a duty to help those in need. Ok you merchant of death, well send the help on one condition you implement a state wide mask mandate and rescind all your prior murderous orders prohibiting local governments and schools from protecting those in their charge. Time you started learning a little personal responsibility: you know what you endlessly preach that others should practice, but something which youve inexorably demonstrated you know nothing about. 🤬

I guess we shouldnt be surprised as they have no shame given that, to have shame, you must first have a conscience that enables you to perceive the harm youve caused. Between him and his lieutenant governor who said cheerily that seniors would be happy to die for the Dow Jones they are the worst exemplars of the utter banality of evil.

Texas In Crisis As Governor Abbott Plays The Violin
As Texas hit its highest daily rate for COVID cases since February, Governor Abbott was playing the violin, seemingly oblivious. He tweeted, "A great Day in Austin County. These group of patriots are doing their part to keep Texas RED."
The tweet accompanied by a photo of the Texas Governor smiling and playing violin certainly earned the wrath of many Texans on Twitter.
"Why would you tweet 'great day' when the hospitals are filled with people suffering from the pandemic you've handled so poorly? More children in the ICU than anytime since the start. 99% of them unvaccinated. @EdOznerol
Many compared Governor Abbott to the infamous Roman Emperor Nero. According to history, Nero played the fiddle as his city burned. There were comparisons to Abbott playing the violin in Austin as Austin hospitals were overwhelmed with COVID patients.
As Abbott posted the pictures, ICU wards in a five-county area that includes the Texas capital of Austin neared capacity with 184 COVID-19 patients. There are only 200 ICU total beds available in the hospitals.

(97,620 posts)I never said that and you putting those words in my mouth is beneath you.
Should we demand health care workers to go to a war zone to protect a state, not an enemy zone but a US State? One that has refused to help their own and in fact accelerated the death rate and continues to do so.
So you want the worn out workers, facing their own mental health issues after having watched patient after patient die. Holding phones to a patients ear so they could say goodbye to a loved one. They have been doing this for a year and a half now. These workers have been abused by the Abbott's of the GOP. No adequate PPE. My family member had to wear a bulky, hot yellow rain slicker for 18 hour shifts. A mask, that the whiners complained about for a 15 minute stop, workers were double masked for 18 hours straight. Let's think about the health care workers for once, they have families too. They have gone public and begged people to mask up. I saw two cry in interviews saying they are bone tired and all that is left for them to do is just watch them die.
The Abbott's and Ron's of this world are killing our own heath care people. Why doesn't anyone care about them!

(11,836 posts)Thats totally different than saying , no, no matter what
For Biden to negotiate privately with these idiot governors would be appropriate to get their behavior changed and I would totally support that
But we cannot just give up on
Americans just because they have elected
Idiots
Couple years ago nj had an idiot governor, christie, but when hurricane sandy hit our democratic
President went, helped and comforted
Or is my memory wrong?
sheshe2
(97,620 posts)I saw what he did. I love him for it. But comfort is a far cry from 24/7 critical care.
However that is a far cry for the healthcare workers being asked to go into a red zone to care for people in a state that does not care for them. Everything Abbott has done has increased there death rate and has no plans to change that.
Yet he wants to have them come in, risk their lives and mental heath for the sick and dying that he made happen. He hasn't said, I will mandate masks and vaccines. He said help my political future.
Healthcare workers are leaving the profession in droves. The hospitals are on the brink and the dying will continue in massive numbers unless these states change direction.
