Fascism In Three Easy Steps

As part of a recent speech by President Obama:

"All of us as citizens have to recognize that the path towards an undemocratic America is not gonna happen in just one bang," It happens "in a series of steps," Obama said, citing the devolution of places like Hungary and Poland.

STEP ONE: Packing the Supreme Court

Mission accomplished, and it's already borne fruit, with the fascist Alito presiding over allowing voter restrictions according to five rules he made up out of thin air, none of which are based upon law or the constitution.


STEP TWO: State Legislatures Enacting Laws Restricting Voting and Elections

We're watching this in real time, with about 400 laws restricting voting and elections in various stages in state legislatures. Unfortunately, these laws are not limited to voter suppression. A few Fridays back on the PBS Newshour, David Brooks stated:

I do think the 2022 election is going to be a fair election. I don't think it's totally — we have totally trashed our system. And that's why I make the emphasis just that, when you try to discriminate against people, one of the things that's happened — and this is not making it right — they come back at you harder. And so you get turnout increases when people perceive the legislatures are trying to turn down — turn us away.

NO!

No, no, no, no, no.

This is also the case with those who claim all that's required is to crank-up the GOTV and overwhelm any voter suppression laws.

Neither of these will work, because in addition to voter suppression , these new laws allow state legislatures to take over the COUNTING of the votes from state election officials. They will determine which votes are legitimate, and which votes are 'illegitimate', and then they will oversee the counting of votes. Anyone who trusts these clowns to count the votes is only fooling themselves.

Under these circumstances, it's highly likely the Repubs will take back the House and the Senate during the '22 midterms.


STEP THREE: Electoral College

When it comes to the '24 presidential election, the Repubs have included in these new laws, their ability to ignore how the pesky citizens voted, and send their own hand-picked electors to the electoral college. So instead of winning the election by 8 million votes, Biden could win the election by 16 million votes, yet the electoral college could still appoint whoever the Repub nominee happened to be.

Next they would go after the media, academia, the lower courts, and finally, all dissenters, just as Hungary and Poland have, and all future elections would simply be for show.

David Plouffe, the former White House senior adviser to President Barack Obama, during his appearance on 'The Last Word' with Lawrence O'Donnell said:

the Republicans are serious as a heart attack about ending our democracy and so we have to take this step. There's two ways. We get rid of the filibuster entirely or we have a carve-out. If we don't do that then it's all empty words.

Now, the Repubs claim that Congress enacting voter and election protections is a "federal takeover" of state elections, but Article One, Section 4 of the Constitution of the United States of America "grants the states the power to regulate the congressional election process, but establishes that Congress can alter those regulations or make its own regulations". Therefore, Congress would be doing its job, rather than engaging in a takeover.
