The Texas Supreme Court ruled that state Democrats who fled to Washington, D.C., to block the passage of a GOP-backed elections overhaul bill can be arrested and brought back to the state Capitol.
The ruling from the high court comes hours after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and state House Speaker Dade Phelan (R) asked the court to block an order from a Travis County Judge stopping the state from exercising its authority to arrest the lawmakers.
The Republicans wanted the court to overturn the order by 5 p.m.
Renae Eze, a spokeswoman for Abbott, said in a statement to The Hill that the court "swiftly rejected this dangerous attempt by Texas Democrats to undermine our Constitution and avoid doing the job they were elected to do."

Texas has effectively succeeded from the Union.
Time to cut off all federal aid.

(83,948 posts)I guess Greg just blew his plea for out of state medical workers to come and bail him out in his COID overrun hospitals. Why should we help you when you wont help yourself and youre planning to arrest Democrats for not bowing to your to your holiness.
Seems like you are are talking out both sides of your mouth.
Way to go Greg. Bravo Way to go!

But, I can see most State Supreme Courts ruling the same on a a political party stalling on voting on an issue by leaving state.
Again, I applaud doing anything necessary to try to avert big lie laws. But, that kind of stuff can be used by any minority party to block significant legislation.
Plus, I believe courts may offer some relief from onerous legislation. And, whatever obstacles are left, Democrats and Stacy Abrams group, etc. will figure out a way to mitigate damage.
