(5,935 posts)Im getting to a very dark place where I actively hope they will get it, and that theyll have very serious cases of it. The only way people like that can improve our society is by leaving it. So please, refuse the vaccine, dont wear a mask, and hurry up to meet Jesus.

(9,897 posts)I feel like these people are beyond the pale now. It pained me to find out that a long ago ex-girlfriend of mine is among those screaming at doctors and professionals and likely among that crowd, but she is an ex and not a wife for many reasons, this is sad confirmation that I was right many, many moons ago to move on and chart a better path.
It sucks that many of us are now facing the reality that people we care about have been consumed by this anti-science, anti-rationality cult of personality that is convincing them that their very freedom is at stake and that life-saving vaccines are poisons and pathological liars are truth tellers. Heartbreaking and soul sucking as it is, my empathy reserves are running on empty now...

(3,406 posts)This is what trump, yes trump, and the republicans have created in this country, total insanity. These insane people go to the doctors for check ups, when they don't feel good, when they need an operation, when their kids are sick, etc. but because masks and vaccines have been made into a republican political point, now they want to kill the doctors. Then if one of their kids dies from COVID, they cry and blame who? Not themselves because, according to republican principles they are never wrong, that is the republican way. Are they insane or is it that they don't care if their kids get sick, what is it??? besides insanity, of course.

Low, low taxes / cost of living.
People from DC/Baltimore (US gov service, 2 southern-minded states back then) started retiring there generations ago.

(10,844 posts)and equally low cost of living. But . . . you're trading that for the ridiculous attitudes down here exemplified by this OP and accompanying tweets.
I'm out of here at the end of the day this coming Monday. The new owners? They're migrating from California. In fact, our realtor said many of the home buyers this season are from the West Coast.
They're welcome to the Land of Snake Charmers and Ignorance.

(10,844 posts)Were from out-of-state. We were transferred here through the company my husband was working for at the time, always thought the move was temporary and fully expected to be transferred again.
Until it didn't happen and we were trapped in place.
It's rare to hear a true southern accent in my area. Go into the mountains? It's a whole different thing.
When we head north, I won't be looking back. It will be good to get home, finally.

plimsoll
(1,671 posts)But it is definitely a state of mind. Most of the people with "southern" accents I worked with were decent, intelligent and hard working. And then there were the Southerners, people who chose to live up to and exceed all the negative stereotypes we ascribe to southerners. And yeah, seems as if many of them sounded like they originated outside the south but they identified as being southern.
It's kind of like the story with blondes. We know what causes dumb blondes: peroxide. These folks identify as southern now probably because what Kevin Phillips failed to realize about the "southern strategy" was that it would attract southerners, and I don't mean people who started out in the south.

Medical professionals are threatened and besieged by an angry mob in Franklin, TN after they testified in favor of masks at school board mtg. They needed police to get them out of the parking lot safely. These are organized, not isolated, and getting worse. From @formvscontent

This isnt going to be a second insurrection at the Capitol in DC. That isnt the plan. The plan going forward is this. They are focused on local government agencies all over the country like school boards and county commissions. There will be lots of these - not just over covid.

The only good part was not being molested on crowded subways.
People always get weird as hell during an epidemic, especially one they haven't faced before. Medical people always catch hell from the (temporarily) healthy who are terrified of being exposed to what we deal with every single day.

most, not all, but most are just blowhards, all talk. Its like their god tells them its ok to be assholes if theyre being an assholes to those deemed heretics to ANY of their beliefs. Same in the Pro Life arena, just assholes screaming at clinic patients. Due to the many biblical references, and actual bibles present at that meeting, you can be sure their religion fuels their virulence.
But their violent threats were recorded, their faces clear, and thats why nothing will likely come of it. I hope every one of those assholes are identified, and those medical professionals keep a record of those making threats. There must be consequences for that kind of behavior.

"Public health" may need more legal protections. That might have been done already but I don't think anybody anticipated this kind of menacing mass insanity in the 21st Century.

With amendments layered on amendments, eruptions after eruptions and discussions stretched through the night, members of the Williamson County Board of Education voted 7-3 Tuesday night to approve staff recommendations that would mandate the wearing of masks in all elementary schools in the Williamson County Schools district.
The rise of the COVID-19 Delta variant has caused educational institutions across the country to reevaluate mask policies for students, particularly those who are under 12 and are currently unable to be vaccinated. For example, Metro Nashville Public Schools will have mask mandates for all levels in place for now.
At the moment, the county does not have a policy for its middle and high schools, but the elementary level now has a masking requirement in place thanks to the vote by the WCS school board through Sept. 21.
