It's quite compelling. There's no doubt it was way past time to go. No matter when we left, whatever defenses and government were functioning while we were there were going to collapse from lack effort on the part of Afghanis themselves as soon as we were gone. Sad but true.

I don't think many appreciate how easily controlled countries are when the basics of survival are the level at which most people live. My heart breaks for the people, but the task is impossible.
