For better or worse, Tom Friedman is back from writing his book and is churning out new columns in the New York Times
He did recently cite two interesting statistics about Afghanistan. 75 percent of the population is under 25 and thus have no memory of the previous Taliban regime. 70 percent of the population have cell phones and are thus connected to the world, unlike 20 years ago.
Will any of this make any difference? I guess we will find out.

Do they have Hope's and dreams for their country, or have these people been just surviving and have PTSD, from the chaos?

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
