General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDear MSNBC: please take Andrea Mitchell off the air
Her reporting if you can call it that, is really misinformation, which we all know is dangerous.
While her misinformation focuses on the situation in Afghanistan (Bidens first speech today?; no mention of the agreement with the Taliban that TFG made?; sensationalizing the situation; not a single Democratic congressperson has been invited to discuss it while a Republican every damn day
on and on), the misinformation is just as damaging.
Its well past time for her to retire.

(103 posts)As I listened to her stumble her way through her program, laying blame on Biden, but nary a word about TFG and the origin of the Afghanistan debacle, I was asking what I could do to persuade MSNBC to insist on her retirement. Guess I'll follow the advice of some posters here who advise that I merely switch channels at 12:00, through the 1:00 programming. Done!

(19,917 posts)I mean, come on, plenty of people watch cable, including plenty of people here at DU. It's obvious from the number of posts I see here 9every day, about something that Rachel or Lawrence (for example) or some guest on one of their shows said.
I watch MSNBC every day myself. Once in a smile, I check in to see what Anderson Cooper or somebody else is up to over on CNN. And you know what? I actually learn a lot from those people and their panels of pundits. It's the content I care about about, not whether the medium by which it is transmitted has sufficient snob appeal.

(1,969 posts)I am watching a four hour version of the first Lord of the Rings movie on streaming right now. Hardly the best use of one's Friday night.
But watching TV with commercials where you are not choosing the content. Yeah I am glad I left that in the past.
As for radio give me podcasts and my own songs on Spotify any day of the week. Simply a superior experience.

Sympthsical
(10,427 posts)There are a lot of posts where the title and content are completely incomprehensible unless you yourself happen to be watching cable news at the time.
I don't have cable and never watch cable news, so I almost never understand the context of various posts throughout the day.
This would be like me making a post right now, "I think I agree with Nigel a lot more than Evelyn about Ted Talks." Unless you're listening to that podcast along with me, you'd have zero idea.
A lot of people use Discord these days for pretty much everything. A DU Discord, with sub-channels for cable news networks so people could discuss it in real time, wouldn't be the most horrible idea. I have ten or so Discord servers in the background at any given time for gaming, podcasts, hobbies, etc.
Of course, who would moderate it? The people who'd really want to are probably exactly the people who really shouldn't.

(1,645 posts)I long ago took to dodging her presence on MSNBC, but lately she also often ruins the prime-time NBC news for me too. And that's saying something, given what crappola they have been indulging in in the past few weeks, apparently desperate to return to the days when they could count on at least a couple major DC scandals every day.

Mrs. "But her emails" Greenspan isn't going anywhere.
The ONLY thing people can do is to STOP watching that old, right-winged hack. Letters and complaints to the MSNBC won't work either. STOP WATCHING HER.
I stopped even before 2016's GE, but kid of had to watch her to follow Hillary. But haven't watched nor wasted one minute watching her since. I guess it's like watching a train wreck and getting upset because you watched it for some. I have friends who hate that clown, but they still tune in to watch her, then call ME to complain about how awfully right-winged and biased she IS
I don't get it

(7,794 posts)Since they're the ones that carry the most gravitas, they are the most likely to be believed when they go off the rails into partisan talking points.
Media news has always been after believability and trustworthiness more than thoroughness and accuracy. It's the few who combine those traits that public figures with dark closets fear the most. And that, kids, is why we can't have nice things or Al Franken.

(1,747 posts)So tired of the "gotcha" journalism. All these talking heads in their comfortable studios are suddenly military experts (along with spouting revisionist history.) The headlines on CNN alone "Biden's stubbornness on display", "Harris flies to South Asia in search of a foreign policy win in the face of the Afghanistan crisis". How about just reporting the news without the spin? How about "Harris flies to Southeast Asia to speak with leaders of Vietnam and Singapore". Why the editorial spin on a trip that has been planned for a while?
So sick of this. Our country needs solid reporting, not the constant disaster spin. How about reporting evenly on how the Afghanistan evacuations are doing 5 days out?

After all, Mitchell has been married to a supporter of the "Chicago School" who is also an admirer of Ayn Rand. That's got to leave an impact over the years.
Her reporting on anything is not only unsurprising as a result, it is suspect.

(29,861 posts)My local high school's paper has more talented journalists than Chuck Todd or Ari Melber. Like I said, MSNBC could use some house cleaning; getting rid of Chris Matthews was a good start.
totodeinhere
(13,585 posts)Otherwise I think he would still be there.
But regarding the people that you say they need to get rid of, if enough people agree with you and don't watch them then they will be cancelled. But if they continue to get acceptable ratings then they will stay. MSNBC is a profit making enterprise and their focus is on ratings and profits and not on vetting the journalistic qualifications of their on air staff.

(15,558 posts)Andrea was being her usual snarky self and Hilary did not answer to her comment just gave her a hard glare. It occurred in a flash and you could see Mitchell was hurt. The thing about Andrea Mitchell she views herself as on par with Cronkite or Huntley and Brinkley and some sort female role model. It is most likely all she gets from the MSNBC female journalist is hard looks when she walks away. When she leaves NBC she will be quickly forgotten. That would be justice.
