FBI Finds Scant Evidence U.S. Capitol Attack Was Coordinated-Sources (Reuters)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The FBI has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result, according to four current and former law enforcement officials.

Though federal officials have arrested more than 570 alleged participants, the FBI at this point believes the violence was not centrally coordinated by far-right groups or prominent supporters of then-President Donald Trump, according to the sources, who have been either directly involved in or briefed regularly on the wide-ranging investigations.

"Ninety to ninety-five percent of these are one-off cases," said a former senior law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation. "Then you have five percent, maybe, of these militia groups that were more closely organized. But there was no grand scheme with Roger Stone and Alex Jones and all of these people to storm the Capitol and take hostages."

It's not good that you have "five percent, maybe, of these militia groups that were more closely organized."

Basically, the ploy Trump and the Republicans under his command use is to act out and rile up. They don't tell people exactly what to do, but it is coordinative. It's classically Trumpian. Guys like Trump, Giuliani, and Josh Hawley didn't say, "breech the Capitol, warriors." They just said "fight" and "you're not going to have a country" and pumped their fist in the air. They said that kind of stuff to an angry mob. That's coordination.

Telling the mob of Trump supporters to fight was Trump's way of coordinating. It's the way he always coordinates. He makes it known what he wants. Gets results from scumbags. Then says they were fine, loving people after the fact. The people who take their life orders from him get it.

The report also detailed that while the FBI was investigating the Nassar allegations, the head of the FBI’s field office in Indianapolis, W. Jay Abbott, was talking to Penny about getting a job with the Olympic Committee. He applied for the job but didn’t get it and later retired from the FBI, the report said.

Abbott also lied to investigators from the inspector general’s office multiple times in an effort “to minimize errors” made by his office in handling the case, the report found.
