All the younger people in my extended family are finally getting vaccinated since they and most of their children have gotten very sick, have lingering symptoms and one of them has been in the hospital for a month. It's gotten to a point where the few of us who haven't gotten sick are the ones who have been wearing masks for 18 months everywhere we go and have been vaccinated.
Probably just a coincidence.

(24,716 posts)I probably would have been just like them.
I'm old enough and have led a good enough life to not be afraid of dying, but it scares me that if I caught the virus I could have to live the rest of my life with some very inconvenient symptoms. At least I won't have to live 70-80 years like that as some of them may have to.

(23,072 posts)...who don't wear masks properly when they are wearing them, but prefer to not wear them. I get the impression they think this pandemic is a joke still, since they joke around about who's not wearing a mask in front of whom, like the virus will cut them a break again if they contract it a second time. One was in ICU for two weeks. He's back to his same old ignorant self with his piggy nose sticking out from above his mask at every juncture that I see him.
One immediate death in our staff, one extended at this point. That's something to snicker about.

(19,325 posts)This Delta surge that's starting up isn't going to be pretty for anyone. The quicker we mask up as a country,
the quicker we can slow it's spread, and an added bonus is saving lives, maybe one of your loved ones.

(24,716 posts)in their early 30s who were saying this time last year that after November 3rd, no one will even be talkling about the virus anymore.
They're talking about it now that they've had it. So have their children, but fortunately their symptoms weren't too bad. I do worry about the long term effects on someone who is two years old. We know very little about that.
