https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/22/asia/kabul-airport-chaos-evacuations-intl/index.htmlBy Sunday morning, the number of people at the airport awaiting flights had swelled to 18,500, with another 2,000 at the gates waiting to get in, a source familiar with the situation told CNN.
One reason for the chaos was the decision to issue electronic visas to Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants, without names or document numbers. The visas were then copied as screen shots and sent by Afghans to thousands of other Afghans who were not eligible for access to the airport, the source said.

(7,400 posts)that the vast majority of people outside the airport do not have visas. She said they told her America would evacuate anyone who got to the airport in time.
Add your post about the electronic visa being copied and sent to people not eligible, that compounds the trouble. I don't know why the USA assumes people are honest .... we aren't as a whole.
Apparently 1000's upon 1000's of rushed to the airport with not much more than the clothes on their back assuming they would get out. She said the road to the airport was blocked with 100's of abandoned vehicles. There was no police anywhere. No security. People where fighting over a place in line or "don't bump me" etc. She said Taliban fighters arrived and tried to disperse the crowd so those with docs could get to the entrances to be screened and that did not go well.
Yesterday before she left the country she said she'd been inside the airport waiting her turn for 2 days, but the situation outside the airport was getting worse. Primarily because their is not food and water for everyone waiting. Inside the military is doing their best to provide food, water, and security while people sleep.
