were they doing there? How many goons does Eric Prince have over there? As far as I'm concerned, the Taliban can skin anyone that would work for that bastard.

(11,688 posts)If they were military there would not be a question they'd get out. Who are we transporting who isn't military or an Afghani alley? Independent contractor$ is my guess.

(54,770 posts)are contractors essentially mercenaries and profiteers. But honestly dont know.
Good question. Hope someone has some decent info.

(90,837 posts)Beyond that, the people having the hardest time are Afghans, some of them in remote villages.
But as far as remaining Americans how many and where they are and why they are not out yet as Jen Psaki explained several times today, mostly to Doucy, the State Department requests Americans to register with them when they arrive in a foreign country, but they are not required to register, and when Americans leave they are not required to de-register, either.
And that is why we never know how many Americans are in any given foreign country at any given time.
Doucy kept insisting that there were Americans who were trapped and that he had engaged in phone calls with some of them, and Jen patiently kept asking that the info be provided to her and that she would immediately see that it got to the appropriate agency so they could be helped.
You know how it is with Doucy of FOX: after awhile you begin to suspect he made the whole thing up.

(15,013 posts)I'd prefer the charity-types not be skinned. The mercenaries, I don't have much emotional investment in that.

(10,252 posts)But everyone knew this was coming and should have gotten out. As someone postulated I bet the mercenaries are mostly gone. They rely on US military to provide the infrastructure allowing them to make the big bucks. Not much sympathy for them. Some of the charities need to FTFO. As to Christian missionaries, god will protect them.
