They thought Ronald Reagan was such a good Christian and rejected Jimmy Carter, who truly was one. When the Carters left the White house, someone asked Rosalyn what hurt the most about Jimmy's loss. She said that when Reagan's people were quoted as saying "now, we'll have a true Christian in the White House" it hurt because she knew how much they misjudged her husband.

....Presbyterian Church when he left office and retired to California. He never went to church after that, like when he was in D.C., because of "security concerns". Wanted to make sure I had his name right so I googled it before posting. What great joy! The Rev. Donn Moomaw resigned from his position in 1995 because of "inappropriate sexual contact" with five congregants (all women, whew, no little boys). The photo that I remember was of the big ass Reverend (an ex-football lineman) just bursting with pride as he welcomed Nancy and the Gipper back into the fold. Got to give the Repubs points for consistency.
