Good Morning!
While the sane are preparing for tropical storm force winds and hoping Ida doesn't take a more westerly course, which could mean traveling the same path as Hurricane Laura did last year (that killed one, left us without power for 6 weeks, destroyed homes and businesses, lot of flooding that washed away driveways and roads), the crazy are coming out this AM to protest mandatory Covid-19 vaccines of soldiers.
Because, you know, it's not like anything major is bearing down on us at the moment. Not like hospitals are already at the breaking point.
Pandemic meets Hurricane Round Two - now with Wackadoodles.
What fun!
ETA: Civilians are doing the protesting. NOT military.

(96,940 posts)My DH just told me about it. They got a memo at his civilian job to be on the look out and to avoid the protest.

(13,017 posts)All these pus bags screaming about blood baths coming, only need a crowd. Like Taliban at Kubal airport. These asshole are fired up by trump/Fox/Alex Jones and many more to shoot people. American Taliban is ready to meet their virgins, especially the INCELbans. Tell them if they stand in the streets of a Cat 4 it will blow away all virus. FreeDumb. 140 mph winds may blow their guns away into salt water. MAGA!

(13,013 posts)Who are these people? How did they get on post?
Solly Mack
(96,940 posts)Might be in the local paper. Haven't checked.
They didn't get on post. They protested outside the gate. I don't know how many showed up or anything along those lines, but I do know the barricades were still in place this afternoon - to keep people on foot back. We found that out when we went to the PX.
The barricades are not normally set up for that. Foot traffic is otherwise allowed.
I'd imagine they were the typical sort who have been protesting vaccines for Covid -19.
We didn't bother attending the protest. Not that curious and there's a Hurricane coming.
He'll know more about what took place later this evening. He's working this evening - a lot of people are staying with their military relatives on post due to Hurricane Ida (coming up from the coast) and he is part of the crew clearing them for entry.

(13,013 posts)I couldn't imagine the post allowed protesters inside the gates.
I haven't been to Fort Polk in years but it would surprise me if there were many protesters from Leesville. Then again, there aren't a lot of other civilians in the area. Surely, a group of nut cases didn't drive in from Alexandria to protest.
Solly Mack
(96,940 posts)They stood around a few and then left. Rain didn't help their cause any. That's what his co-workers told him when he got there.
No one is allowed to protest on a military post. It's been that way on every post I have ever lived and that includes multiple states and overseas. 20 plus years worth.
Quite a few wackadoodles in Leesville actually. Trump shit all over. People here still talk about the "Clinton Hit" list. Lots of loud, defensive anti-vax maskholes running about. But I couldn't imagine many turning out when people were preparing for Ida and family members evacuating this way.
Lot of nice people, too. I live in a majority blue neighborhood, one of the few, very few, "blue pockets" in the Parish. But a pocket in this rural Parish is more like a nickel bag than a pocket. Tiny, and a bit of a tease.
Everyone talks about how small Leesville used to be. That's funny to me because it's still small in my opinion but folks always tell me I should have seen it years ago.
We retired here several years ago.
