Banks has threatened the Big Tech companies to not turn over the evidence requested by the Committee. Rep Swalwell reminded him that there is such a thing as obstruction of justice.
Some people seem to be running scared.
Trump has threatened to use executive privilege to keep anyone from talking. Of course, the person that will decide "executive privilege" is the present executive, Joe Biden, not Donald Trump.
The information is scheduled to come from the different Departments of government, including Dept of Defense and DHS by September 12th. (Also, the National Archives) You can almost hear the whining and the gnashing of teeth already.
If the past is any example, we can expect Trump to order Republicans to not cooperate. They will have to decide, who do they follow? Trump or the law? He will go to his old standby excuse: it is a sham and a witch-hunt. They will do anything to prevent the truth from coming out.
The strategy of the Republicans will be to stretch it all out beyond the next election. If they can win, they will bury it.

(17,912 posts)Few things are as powerless as former presidents. 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 2 months, I don't care. It will come out. And the beauty of THIS House Jan 6 committee is it can carry all this right smack dab into the middle of the 2022 election cycle. The original deal the Republicans rejected would have been forced to wrap things up by end of year and they could pack their side with "bomb throwers" and obstructionists like Gym Jordan. But, oh no. Couldn't do that. Personally, I like it when our opponents are dumb. Makes life just that much easier.

They could decide that Executive Privilege DOES extend to former Presidents.
They could also decide that Congressional subpoenas served on the executive (past or present) are a political, not a legal issue where they have jurisdiction.
I will repeat my rant:
THANK YOU HILLARY HATERS! THANK YOU NADER VOTERS! Two flawed elections (2000, 2016) gave us this radical court. Had the left-wing absolutists voted for the Democratic candidate in those elections, SCOTUS would be 7-2 liberal.
