ATLANTA (AP) Republican efforts questioning the outcome of the 2020 presidential race have led to voting system breaches that election security experts say pose a heightened risk to future elections.
Copies of the Dominion Voting Systems software used to manage elections from designing ballots to configuring voting machines and tallying results were distributed at an event this month in South Dakota organized by MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, an ally of former President Donald Trump who has made unsubstantiated claims about last years election.
Its a game-changer in that the environment we have talked about existing now is a reality, said Matt Masterson, a former top election security official in the Trump administration. We told election officials, essentially, that you should assume this information is already out there. Now we know it is, and we dont know what they are going to do with it.
The software copies came from voting equipment in Mesa County, Colorado, and Antrim County, Michigan, where Trump allies had sue unsuccessfully challenging the results from last fall.
The Dominion software is used in some 30 states, including counties in California, Georgia and Michigan.

(4,997 posts)that those "fraudits" are cover for them gaining access in just this way, for the purpose of rigging the next election.
And why is it always Dominion systems that they target? There are other electronic voting systems.
The whole thing stinks & needs more than a strongly worded letter from the DOJ, sent months ago.

(12,681 posts)Look at 2020 elections -ES&S was used in Kentucky, Maine, South Carolina. Texas, Florida... GOP states, where despite poling and larger turnouts in the cities, the GOP candidate won by just enough not to trigger a recount.
ES&S is run by GOP hackers, and the founder had famously promised in 2004 to deliver Florida to Bush.
Dominion is non-partisan. The GOP doesn't want Dominion election systems in swing states, because they can't win unless they can cheat.

(20,006 posts)Considering a cyberattack shut down a major pipeline earlier this year as well as the rise of ransomware, some hackers appear to be getting better at it. It's probably inevitable that a "political party" willing to take extreme antidemocratic measures to gerrymander, try to actually overturn an election, enact Jim Crow laws to disenfranchise voters and even overturn future elections will eventually end up trying to rig voting machines. If they haven't already.
