Trump called the son of my friend a "sucker," a young man who died in Afghanistan five years ago due to a roadside bomb. He was 25.

And Trump called my friend, the mother of the soldier, a "sucker" for allowing her son to join the Army and to protect his troop and Afghani civilians.

That's enough for me.

What I believe is that these fathers do not respect Biden and are Trump supporters who would find fault no matter what Biden did or said.

This is where we are as a country. The divide is so deep that even in an event such as this, the death of one’s own child, there is a need to refuse even the condolences offered by someone whose political party you reject.

I pity these fathers and there inability to put politics aside even for a few hours. I have no doubt that Biden attempted to share that he knows their pain, their sense of loss, the “black hole” that will forever live inside them. It is a shame they couldn’t understand that.
