They had tickets to concerts that were cancelled last year due to the pandemic and were recently rescheduled.
We told them that they needed to have their vaccine cards as proof of being vaccinated to enter into these events and they needed to mask up as well.
They went to two venues - one at Wrigley Field and the other at Tinley Park.
I was appalled by their feedback.
They said neither one of the venues asked to see proof of vaccination and neither one made it a requirement that they needed to be masked.
Entering both events - only their event tickets were checked - nothing else. No pandemic related checks and no passing through any types of airport style detectors.
I was totally surprised in hearing this as I thought that Illinois was doing a good job at minimizing 'super spreader' events.
I'm getting more and more frightened at the attitude of people in general about this pandemic and the delta variants and related spike in cases, hospitalizations and deaths.
It's almost like people don't care anymore and are willing to risk everything to give them some semblance of normalcy in their lives.
I know that I'm doing everything I could to protect myself - but its the other people that you have to worry about.
I'm beginning to look at it like - everyone is out to get/kill me. It's like Russian Roulette out there now. We're in the Covid Casino and we're gambling with our lives.
Help!!!!

(10,897 posts)Renamed, but still around. I remember when that was first built. I grew up in the SW burbs, and you could hear concerts on summer evenings. Wonder if that's still the case. I think I remember that soundproofing was a whole thing that didn't happen. But, I was very young at the time.
Lots of memories of concerts there, though.

(76,141 posts)My wife & I saw Bowie, with Nine Inch Nails as the opener, there.
They're on their 5th name now. It's now Hollywood Casino Amphitheater. Before that, First Midwest Bank, before that Tweeter Center, before that New World Music Theatre, plus the original name!
We probably saw 6 to 8 shows there.

(61,033 posts)and they have live audiences and there's little masking and social distancing. And the commentators are not mentioning it at all.
It's crazy, as if there's no pandemic at all.

(73,422 posts)this weekend there was a pair of ladies canvassing my hood, checking on whether people were vaxxed, or needed help/info.
they were adorable. they had on neon green vests, and masks.
but damn, i am not hearing any real drum beat around here to get vaxxed. i might just not be hearing it, as i dont follow the local news closely. but not much in my fb feed....
almost lost my mind last summer, tho. i live on a busy street w a lot of foot traffic. same damn maskholes every day. try talking to them a few times, then i started just calling them out when they all but bumped into me on my sidewalk.
now half my hood thinks i'm a crazy drunk. (i do love my beer, but it has nothing to do w it.)
got into some true shit, tho.
a lot of people were trapped rats, and it showed. all but a shooting war.
i got rly tired of being everyone's mom.

(7,611 posts)Should but they don't. US Tennis Open requires proof of vaccine. Wimbledon had full crowds and no problems. We know outdoors is safer than indoors. It may be that outdoors is safe even for crowds. There is a lot of evidence piling up that it is. You really don't know until you try.

(7,611 posts)I would tend to avoid that person a bit. The point is that these outdoor events are proving NOT to be superspreaders.

(107,981 posts)And in the last week I've been attending live music events again. And this includes going to see the Foo Fighters indoors, sold out. Again, not one single problem.
If you look at it being afraid of everybody, like some people are here, I feel like you'll never be satisfied with any outcome of any event.

(33,424 posts)Not exactly "outdoors". But I don't think there is any problem with outdoor events and I would not wear a mask at one.

(7,611 posts)Open sides just there to protect you from the rain. But I don't really know.

(3,369 posts)We were at Millenium Park for a concert on Saturday and they checked vaccine status. It took all of 3 seconds though so someone probably could have flashed their auto insurance card. Masking is only required indoors. It will be interesting to see how they handle this at Hawks and Bulls games that will be starting soon.

(107,981 posts)I think because it's at an inside concert. When I saw Rise Against and Coheed & Cambria - both outdoor shows, they weren't as heavily enforced. But I think Live Nation is going to start requiring proof of vaccines at all of its' venues starting in late September.

(107,981 posts)That some people don't want the pandemic to end. The thing is the pandemic is going to end no matter what because these things just do. There's some people I know who are very paranoid like we're still in the first month.
But it's one of those things - whatever floats your boat. If you want to go out and see people again then do it. If you want to stay at home and do everything on Zoom, then do it. Me personally I'm sick of Zoom and staring at my computer screen all day, every day. I'm happy to have things to do and go to again.

(4,445 posts)I'm still coming into the office 3 days a week. Most times I'm the only one here in our office suite, but now that production is picking up on the lot, the Commissary is open so there's somewhere to grab lunch and see other employees. Plus it's nice to get out of the damned house and have somewhere to go. Also, everything just works better in the office from an I/T perspective.
I'm also very much looking forward to going to a Rams game in a few weeks.

(107,981 posts)I've been in the office since January, though it was mostly because I was helping out with the remodel which we used our PPP money for. Most everyone here is back but about 1/2 work from home 2 - 3 days a week. And yeah I hate being stuck at home all day every day.
I want to go to a Rams game because I want to see Sofi Stadium. Also thinking of taking a trip out to Vegas in November to see the Stones at Allegiant Stadium. I saw Sofi when I parked there going to the Foo Fighters show and it was really impressive in person. I can't wait to go to a game there!

(4,445 posts)the Tampa Bay game since we're huge Tom Brady fans. I am hearing they are having some issues at SoFi with logistics and food so we'll see how things are when we go in a few weeks.
Unless you're a season ticket holder it's not possible to park at the stadium on game days, but Inglewood has several park and ride lots close to the stadium so we bought a space through the city for the game.
I'm not sure masks are required inside the stadium since it's basically outdoors, I believe, but we'll take a mask in case they want us to wear one when not eating or drinking.

(537 posts)Say one thing do another. I suspect it's the same issue with policing mask wearing in stores. They don't get paid enough to enforce things. Its horrible that it's happening, and I won't be doing those things anytime soon!
