😲 Ghads! Good Luck!! Pretty rare for DC, yes?! electric_blue68 Sep 2021 #1
We don't often get tornados, but do get the warnings a couple times a year. bottomofthehill Sep 2021 #2
Got it. We in NYC until 🤔 early '00's get a warning every few year... electric_blue68 Sep 2021 #3
Hopefully we had ours for the year. bottomofthehill Sep 2021 #4
Hopefully yes! Ack, poor Baltimore area. electric_blue68 Sep 2021 #5

and an actual touchdown every supposed 8 - 10 yrs.

But as. bit of a weather buff - I never heard any warnings, and the first touch down I ever heard of was actually just across the Hudson River across from Manhattan in NJ town by the GW Bridge in ?mid '80s. We lived not far away in that part of waaaaaay upper Manhattan.

Then nothing till early early '00s when suddenly we'd get two or so warnings a year. And one mid '00s we had 2 touchdowns in one year! Gak!

Now we get a few warnings a year. A touchdown every other year or two. Sometimes right over in NJ which we are very close to.

As someone who watched The Wizard of Oz a bunch of times as a kid. .. Scary Tornadoes are semi imprinted in my brain!
Still soooo surreal!!!

Be safe!

an uprooted tree from the side yard ended up on the front porch pressed against the front door of our townhouse.

The storm was a big deal, power out for 3-4 days, electric wires, tree limbs and branches down with debris all over sidewalks and streets. Whoda thunk a tornado in DC? It happens.

He moved to the DC area from Springfield, MO, after growing up in Overland Park, KS. Apparently the Tornado Gods are tracking him.

Damn.

through south GA into FL, remaining overhead the whole way. We tried an offering to the rain gods of coffee from our thermos, but that made it angry and we wouldn't do that again.

a hurricane pummeled its way through Texas. It made its way into southern New Mexico, and I honestly felt it was searching for me.

The weather gods always know exactly where we are.

While others are respectfully inside, my husband's often out all alone on lakes and rivers. Hs devotion is real, but I've wondered if it might be taken as insufficiently fearful. At least the earthquakes stayed in CA, knock wood.

I always get good parking spaces. If I'm a passenger in your car, you will likewise get good parking, no matter what it's like for you normally. I have more than once driven up to some place and someone pulls out of the space I want. I do try not to take it for granted, and try always to say out loud, "Thank you parking Gods".

My MIL was renowned for the same. Just another of the gifts the gods shower on good looking and charming people. She never took it for granted either, though. She'd dutifully drive straight, and only, to the most desirable parking spaces and then await for their grace. And if it seemed appropriate (often, this was Los Angeles), assist by blocking traffic to the chosen territory.

Now that you mention it, I never heard her give thanks out loud, but she was very good looking.

Happy Wednesday.
