An alarming new Supreme Court case could unravel Roe v. Wade as soon as Tuesday night
And the loss of abortion rights in Texas may not even be the most troubling aspect of this case.

Hopefully there'll be some serious funding pool set up for women who can't afford to leave Texas for an abortion.
(and, probably, eventually some other States as well 😔 )

Childcare. Transportation. Privacy from their boyfriend or husband. Time off from work. Ever since Texas closed all abortion clinics but one, it’s been a horrible burden on those who can least sustain it.

In addition — and you’ll love this part — because women’s clinics provide health care services in general, the maternal mortality rate in Texas is now on par with Third World nations.

And now, add vigilantes who’d love to collect a bounty of $10,000 on a woman who decides out of the blue to take a trip out of state for no reason.

This is a catastrophe.

Women no longer have the right to choose.

People in Texas can now act as bounty hunters and arrest women who try to have abortions.

since the Supreme Court allowed Texas to do, which makes Roe no longer legally binding.

This Slate article in this thread explains it thoroughly. They did this in a very convoluted way to "get around" roe v wade. This is what Rachel Maddow was referring to on her show tonight.

Abortions after 6 weeks will be outlawed (the heartbeat bill). Many women don't even know they are pregnant at 6 weeks.

Correction: the stay is temporary and limited. Sadly, #SB8 will go into effect and millions of Texas patients will be subject to a far right wing law thst nullifies women’s autonomy. Elections ALWAYS have consequences. #RoeVWade

Can you imagine having these freelance crackpots suing you every way from Sunday?

I truly cannot imagine how fucking stupid you would have to be to think this could work.

Women across America are not please that their rights have been taken away by republican trickery and SCOTUS purposely sitting on their hands and acting as if they had nothing to do with it.

The '22 mid-terms will have consequences all right.

We kept our home in southern California, but we went. I absolutely would not do that today. My husband said tonight he wouldn’t have taken the job were it offered today. Individuals and the people responsible for making corporate decisions need to avoid Texas. They are a rogue state. They have kneecapped democracy by taking away the power of our votes, they have attacked women’s reproductive health with this disgusting law, they fracture public health by opposing masks and vaccines and the electrical grid there is used to line the pockets of the wealthy but not to provide power to the people of Texas. I lived in Fort Worth for four years. I met many lovely people. I enjoyed the museums, gardens and public spaces. I know there are many good citizens in the state. But it’s long past time for Texans to oppose the powers that be. Rise up. Others will do all they can to help. Or move. Leave that hellhole, even if you have a job there. There are jobs elsewhere. Bring your family members with you. Let these power hungry assholes feel it in their wallets.

Everything you mentioned is so true. Texas (and other states) need to wake up. I know there are some blue areas but not enough it seems. Sigh

I, too, am in SoCal. Imagine if Larry Elder wins the recall. He would be trying to pull that Texas and Florida crap here. It's maddening.

and now, every time I go back (which is very rare)... on the return drive to California... just as I cross the colorado river... I let out a huge scream "Fuck You Arizona"

I will likely never set foot in Texas or most southern red states again in my life, at least until they turn solid blue.

Hubby’s job was giving him fits in AZ and I told him, do Not under any circumstances look for another job in Texas. Or any red state for that matter. We had already left Indiana and we were willing to leave AZ then too. Although Tucson was blue. We moved to Europe.

Listing in TX. (Just got my master's, so items come through on college professions now). Last week I found it intriguing. I love Austin. & Galveston. But then paused regarding the covid stance. Truly concerning.
Today, no thank you. So many decent people there must be increasingly horrified...
