to a little extortion of Manchin and Sinema. They must have some skeletons in their closets. Doing a bad thing for an extremely good outcome...our democracy is in jeopardy if voting rights aren't passed, especially those state laws that allow the legislatures to take over a free and fair election.

There is no way in hell court expansion will ever happen. manchin and sinema will have none of it, and others too i think.

I believe Biden still has a commission "looking into it" but it won't go anywhere.

if women want to protect their rights they are going to need to give us more power in the Senate. That's the message for 2022.

If we don't do that and reinstate the Voting Rights Act in the next months, we have lost all. Nothing this administration does will matter, because it will all go away in 18 months.

It is a decision that we all have to make for our own families. I have a daughter who is 14. Roe is falling right before our eyes. I have a son who has basically only known a country run by Trump and the hate he brought with him that persists into a time where a man ending a 20 year war is vilified. I watch how these things are having a real effect on their childhoods versus mine. And yeah, I have to ask the question. Is it fair to them to be raised in this environment simply because they were born in a fucked up time?

It is a massive and heart wrenching decision and frankly your response is insulting. The glibness is offensive. It would be beyond selfish for me to deny them a childhood and a better upbringing. And it isn’t an easy decision to come to. Nor did I say that I have come to that decision fully. I served in the military (and no I am not asking for military fawning) because I believe in this country. But that was before becoming a parent.

Could he expand ethics rules to include the Supremes?

Can he mandate retirement age? In guessing not.

We should be able to justify expansion of the court by population increases alone.

There should be only 1 judge for every regional (circuit?) court unless a regional court is small and so one judge might take 2.

If any of this has to go through Congress the republicans will not allow it!

Arrghh!

We screwed up, despite multiple people warning us of the repercussions of our apathy, and foolishness. The potential decimation of the SC was front and center back then, even if it fell on too many deaf ears. Now we're reaping what we sowed, as we were warned we would.

There's not an easy fix here, sadly. Not that I don't wish there was. We broke it and the only way to fix it is by getting out there and voting for the most electable Democrats on every ticket. I doubt we will, we're way too salty for serious pragmatism, but that's how we work to repair this damage down the road. There's no quick triage of our self inflicted wounds. There will be no immediate expansion of the SC. There is no quick fix here, the numbers do not exist for such.

We lost in the 2020 census, too. Gerrymandering will be brutal, and some will be overturned, but not as much as previously due to the courts. Republicans who didn't even like Trump knew this when they voted for him.

If we don't balance the court now, it is highly likely; we won't get a chance ever to bring it back into equilibrium.

They've passed highly restrictive voter suppression laws in several states.
They've passed that horrific anti-abortion law in Texas (with other states soon to follow).
They revel in hypocrisy.
They pass laws overnight to repress safety measures during a deadly pandemic.
They break laws with impunity and flaunt their corruption.

The time has come for all of us to not shame them for they have none but, to shame their benefactors. All the corporations that contribute to these depraved people must be shamed. They must be boycotted relentlessly. Divest from them (if by chance you are invested in them). The time has come to get ruthless with these monsters. If we don't then next year when they decide that they've won all the elections, regardless of the actual vote counts, we will be seriously fucked.

The SCOTUS must be expanded!

Maybe when the true consequences of not voting — or voting against one’s best interests — become real, people will wake up.

How many SC justices are enough? When cases are decided by quorum?

Hate to say it, but with Kavanaugh and Barrett — especially Barrett — Roe’s days may be numbered.
