(11,704 posts)But democracy can still be saved for a little while yet. If they'll just do it.

(6,699 posts)Our country is fucked...and being more "fucked" by the minute.
While schumer and biden play "patsy" with the rabid, racist, seditionist, taliban on the right...our country is sinking into the sewage of dysfunction and religious hypocrite ideology.
If senima and manchin don't get off the throne and join in salvaging what is left of our democracy....we are fucked forever more.

(4,989 posts)But I think we all know theres no way it will. We didnt have enough juice when we had sixty senators for that brief period in 2009. We certainly dont have it now. The Republicans claim mandates when they barely win. We took all three and had a massive vote advantage and wont act like its a clear directive from the People.
We have senators who deny the reality thats right in their faces.

(71,542 posts)For example Citizens, United will need a constitutional amendment. Gerrymandering is a state thing and you can bet our courts won't intervene in a positive way. There is no way currently to abolish the filibuster or to expand SCOTUS. In fact, even suggesting the expansion of SCOTUS only helps the GOP. What we do need to do is work to win elections in 22 and 24. And Congress can't really do that. It is up to us at this point.

(4,389 posts)violates the one man one vote theory. After all the filibuster is only a congressional procedure, it's not a law and if their procedure violates any part of a constitutional provision/law that prohibits our elected reps from fully representing voters in their state, it should be challenged. Further, while courts have a constitutional basis, their development is vested with Congress. There are many learned scholars, including some on Biden's committee to expand the courts, that want to expand the court and/or develop another level of court that reduces the powers the USSC has been exerting since Raygun. IMO only working to win future elections is addressing the problem thru a singular lens, we need to expand our vision and think outside the box on how to make laws work for us. After all that's what Rs do.

(2,403 posts)None of this is likely to get done. Some of it pretty much cannot. And still it is blame the democrats for the evils the republicans cause. It is exhausting.

(34,407 posts)it is too bad whoever the "we" is didn't give the Democrats the majority, But why quiver over a few facts, when more than 300 million people can point fingers and yell at the 48 elected officials in the Senate and 220 in the House. I used to think it was funny.

(1,910 posts)You think he is going to agree to any of this? He has a great job, benefits, perks for him and his family. He will do whatever gets him elected in WV and not a thing more.
All this needs to be done! But we do not have the votes in the senate. There are two DINOS one from Az the other pos from WV.

(4,330 posts)Im not sure what the plan is, now. Positive that little can be done without vigorous law enforcement action first but we allowed Wray to stay and our most powerful tool has been neutralized. The Supremes and other former guy judicial appointments are only second-level gatekeepers now.

(1,666 posts)Why not just vote Democratic tickets entirely regardless of whether or not they do it all for you, since you are experiencing what happens when Democratic candidates do not win?

(95 posts)That has to be the frame. Cue the adverts immediately. Random citizens suing for your medical records with bounties to promote? This is the most absurd concoction of BS law ever conceived.
This court was LAZY and LATE with their opinions about 45 taxes and election issues. They need help. They are overworked and need some new recruits. Of course they were late with this ruling and released it at night.
This court is inhabited by COWARDS that have hid behind the shadow docket. Our politicians must be brave and act now - while the distinction is crystal clear. The courts' complete disregard for an established constitutional right is only the beginning (and possibly the end..).
We need to pay back McConnell for Gorsuch. That move should never stand without a response. We need to use the same rules they use to twist the system. If our reps only had the courage and inspiration... How about now?
How about trying to push through a law regarding weirdo lawyer hacks suing you for your medical records? Lets make GQP filibuster that and get on record for that legal perversion. If Scotus is running from it and they have no elections, then GQP should scurry too. The battle is abortion but we should use the absurdities of this law to beat them on the noggin. Just like we should beat on Citizens United. Corporations are not people and NEED to be limited. Show a image rotation of Bezos, Zuckerberg and Epstein - and then harp on tax code favoritism and corporate sleezes that are above the law.
Court reform now! I will show up at the capital and chant that for a few hours. Can we do it in the morning?
ps Breyer should resign now in protest. Court has lost their mind and the country cant risk further destruction. Why cant he see this? Maybe it is about timing.

(17,837 posts)This is the biggest mistake on the left. We either expect elected officials to do all of the heavy lifting or we put all our eggs into difficult to organize mass rallies.
In contrast, the right understands that there actual numbers are falling. So, they maximize their impact by taking advantage of tax payer funded forums like local city council and school board meetings to push their right wing agenda, and to elect right wing extremists at the local level, who gain experience to run for federal office:
In the past, local school board or city council meetings where relatively anonymous affairs, but now most televise and archive their meetings, which gives the public a free forum to speak. Yet, the left has not really taken advantage of this development.
If you want to take off the gloves, then start by letting yourself be heard.
