control over women--- perhaps more accurately: a cowardly way for insecure men to intimidate vulnerable women.
These people are not "pro-life"; they are pro-birth. After a child is born, it is no longer any concern of theirs. After all, bearing children is a woman's primary function and, unless she is married, the pain and inconvenience are her due for being such a slut. (There is no such penalty for the father, of course.)
The religious and moral posturing and the "murder of an innocent unborn child" bullshit is just that: bullshit. Insecure in their masculine personhood, men---primarily old white men---hide behind the power of the state to conceal their personal impotence.
And, that's all I have to say about that.

(11,110 posts)I just can't.
I have found where the old testament priest were directed to conduct a test for infidelity that would result in an abortion if the woman had been unfaithful. (Numbers 5 : 11-31.) The priests were directed to concoct and administer an abortifacient.

(32,727 posts)infanticide in the Christian Churches, especially the RCC. For a very long time the Church didn't think that a child, up until the age of 3 or 4 were very important. Over a 100 years ago, life was pretty fragile for very young children. That played a big part of it.

(641 posts)Remember Kay Bailey Hutchison - enough money to adopt two white babies when she was 58 (pretty sure her husband was older than she). Good money in "adoption" - shades of Georgia Tann. Texasistan has just legalized child trafficking.

(8,995 posts)that abortion should be illegal because people like him want to adopt. (He and his partner eventually did). This was a person who pretended to be a big advocate for woman. But women should be forced to give birth because gay men want their babies.

(49,045 posts)They are pro-fetus: after the birth, the child is SOMEBODY ELSE'S CHILD.
They are conned by RepubliQons who don't care even about fetuses; only about power and money.

It's a wedge issue to get the evangelicals worked up and out to vote etc.
Same with the deficit. Republicans blow all kinds of money when they're in office but start howling about deficits when the Democrats are in control.
Republicans have no true high ground principles or soul. It's all about white folks hanging on to power and rich folks hanging on to more than their fair share of the money.
Said too simplistically but you know what I'm talking about.

(4,834 posts)The GOP has identified 3 or 4 hot button issues that will bring them votes and power: Abortion, Guns, Immigration/racism, government regulations to name just a few. What those serving the party actually believe is irrelevant...it is simply a way to get the votes.

(11,571 posts)I feel exactly the same way, and while I'm not sure how I'd feel about being party to a potential baby of mine being aborted, I'm 200% on the side of women's rights. I THINK I'd be OK with it, but honesty compels me to say that I'm not entirely sure. But, again, not my body, not my decision; I'd accept the position of the one doing all the heavy lifting, for sure.

Thay means less competition for inadequate loser men in their workplaces and more dependence upon them by their own partners, who might otherwise discover little use for them over time.

(10,074 posts)Sick to death of it. Religion has no place in political decisions but for whatever reason that is the road the country is on. It is dark and unbelievable to most of us who do not live in the US. Get money and religion out of your politics, period. Time for some bold moves to be made by dems. Extend the supreme court, get voting rights passed, get the abortion rights passed as a federal law. No more playing "fair" and worrying about what the repubs will do, use the tools available and get it done. That is what they were put into power to do.

I'm am thankful that there are so many men who are NOT interested in controlling women and their bodies. It's good to remember that those who are trying to get rid of Roe vs Wade are in the minority.

Homes for unwed mothers made a lot a lot of money selling babies.

(36,937 posts)Pro-life to conservatives/republicans is a myth.
Republicans are in favor of killing living babies and have done so.
The supposed pro-lifers cared naught when the state of Texas (republican gov, republican Prez) deliberately killed living baby Sun Hudson against the mother's wishes because he was an inconvenience to the state.
It is not a matter of life to the supposed pro-lifers.
It is a matter of control.
