He is essentially saying that people fighting oppression and tyranny over here should be grateful that we don’t live in Afghanistan because it’s worse there. No! why can’t you be against both….that’s like saying that if someone is getting slapped in the face, but someone else is getting stabbed that the person getting slapped should be grateful because the person stabbed would love to be in their position. We should want better…and why is he comparing the US to Afghanistan…the comparison should be between the US and other western countries like Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Sweden, etc

He made some excellent points. It is not that we shouldn't try to make our world a better place, but once and awhile we need to stop and realize how good we have it compared to many parts of the world or to just a generation or two ago in this country. It is a matter of putting things in perspective now and then, lest one comes across as a whiner with little concept of world events or world events. Take a pause and acknowledge how far we've come and then make plans to move forward and build on that.

Maher often irritates me and this past year it has been more and more frequent, but on occasion he still nails it. I knew what he was saying and I knew who he was talking to.

As far as I know, Bill's biggest problem lately is difficulty getting the permits necessary to install a solar electricity system on top of his home in Beverly Hills (on 3.2 acres). But because he's FAMOUS a solar energy company helped him out and he now has solar on his mansion.

Things like the problems in the middle east go beyond anything having to do with the US.

Of course we don't help in many cases but in Afghanistan we mostly did try to do good and improved some things.
