Mine owner - I believe it was a Blankenship mine, hired a union busting private agency to stop union organizing. The union supporting sheriff and the IWW union organizer were killed during the conflict. Mine unions were finally recognized a decade later, during the Roosevelt administration.



Town has a museum to the conflict.


The event was made into a movie by John Sayles. "Matewan."

Students will study the history of the Covid-19 pandemic, and be baffled by the fact that there were three vaccines available in 2021, and the numbers in many ways got worse than 2020.

For instance, my county currently has a low to moderate risk, but the county my SIL finally talked me into taking a 3-day trip to later this month is showing high risk. Not cheering me up.

Your map shows the entire state as glowing red, but Kinsa will give you readings by city and ZIP code.
