By "WE" I mean those of us who follow the recommendations of the CDC, NIH, FDA and our local health departments: get the damn vaccination, wear the damn mask and avoid close indoor contact with others.
"THEY" are the self-centered lazy fools who would rather piss us off than protect us and themselves and all of our children.
They demand we respect their "right" to be petri dishes in which additional, perhaps more virulent, variants can develop.
Why can't we demand the right to know that everyone our child will in be in contact with at school, everyone we encounter at our job, in our post office , in our retail stores and restaurants HAS BEEN VACCINATED and, where appropriate, is WEARING A MASK?
Granting us our rights won't kill anyone. Granting them their rights is--- RIGHT NOW! --- killing many.
Do common sense and decency no longer mean anything?

(16,933 posts)senior Dem leadership would follow your lead. We are right and facts are on our side, but too often we get bogged down in big words and complex ideas instead of plain language. The fact is, no one except the looniest could argue with what you are saying in this post.

(81,127 posts)There are MORE of US, too. We could make a much louder noise if only we were motivated.
I'm going out to protest with my Indivisible group this week. I doubt there'll be a big crowd, even though it sure would be nice. But too many people are unmotivated, apathetic, complacent, or flat-out ignorant!

(2,809 posts)I was driving back from my brother's on four lane highway. Traffic all pulled over for a lights/sirens ambulance coming the other direction.
Except for one SUV with the "cowboy cross" sticker on the back window and Trump/Pence on the bumper.
The ambulance had to slam on the brakes in their left turn attempt to yield right of way to the oncoming Trumper.

(10,425 posts)I was stopping at the post office one day about three years ago. This PO is in a shopping center and has terrible parking. Sometimes have to park 2+ blocks away. This day, as I drove by, there was a Lincoln Town Car parked in front. Clearly, the driver had been going the other way and turned left across traffic to get into the angle parking. But instead of straightening out and parking in one space, the car was left perpendicular to the sidewalk blocking the space on its left and also taking up part of the space to its right.
I parked, and on my way in, a retirement-age-looking white guy with a MAGAt hat was walking out. I asked if the Lincoln were his. He almost smiled like was expecting a 'nice car' comment, but I said something along the line of "figures a tRump humping republicon would be so self-centered and unaware of other to take up three spaces". He said 'well he's better than the last guy'. While continuing to my PO box, I listed a few of tRump's crimes and said those were all done by tRump, not Obama. He blew a gasket and shouted some things, I stopped listening, got my mail and headed out. People waiting in line were staring at him. On my way out the door I said "and nothing you said changes the fact that you're a self-centered prick who doesn't know how to park."
I really got sick of those people long ago.

(2,809 posts)I wish I had recording of that incident, would surely go viral on the intertubes, aside from possibly having evidence of a crime.
Entitled, childish, bullish, stupid, recklessly dangerous and more than likely unvaccinated.

(10,425 posts)Haven't gotten anything internet-worthy yet, but I have saved several good parts of vacation drives.
I would have given cops video of that asshole even without any tRump crap on the truck. People who don't get out of the way of ambulances and fire trucks deserve to spend some time in jail.

(20,568 posts)and bump them from the hospitals when the vaccinated come in for whatever emergency they are experiencing. As it is now, they are getting healthcare for their stupidity and accident, heart attack victims are patched up and sent away or are stored in hallways until one of them dies.

(197 posts)If a hospital gets to the point where triage is in order, you first have to dismiss the unvaccinated (unless so because of a medical condition), THEN assign the urgency.
Oh, and I'm tired of indirectly paying for these folks as well, i.e. through higher medical premiums, decrease in economic activity, emotional distress, etc. But I'm not without compassion, just increase their deductible a wee bit, say to $500,000.

(778 posts)Generally the people who will follow someone like Trump are ignorant and narcissistic and feel that everything is about them. They truly don't care about anyone except themselves and their rights. This virus is scary and we have Let It Go on too long and I honestly feel they should mandate vaccines and masks.
A new variant has been floating around the world and it is now here in our country. It is called MU, pronounced the same as the sound a kitten makes. The way many of us struggled to get vaccinated and have spent over a year and a half being very careful, we may as well throw it all out the window. At this point, the scientists don't believe the vaccine will have any effect against it, nor regeneron nor Remdesivir, etc.

(16,905 posts)We've vacationed many times in OBX since 2005. This was a family vacation. We rented a house, which was a 10 minutes walk for me, 5 for everyone else. Compared to other vacas there, it was low key. We didn't go out driving and exploring. I wore a mask at the places we went into. (I use KN95, not cute, but they fit and I feel a little more secure than with a cloth mask) I ate one meal away from the house, at a restaurant that offered outside seating. I went into one store to shop and one open air farm market. I wore a mask and toured the Whalehead Club. We drove 10 hours straight to get there, and 10 hours straight to get home, 2 stops each way for food, bathroom, gas and walk the grand dog.
All of my family members, except the youngest grandchild, is vaccinated.
I feel that because so many people aren't vaccinated, we were cheated of many pleasures we enjoyed on our other visits. Since it is NC, I don't mind not spending money there. I'm glad it wasn't Florida.
I notice that more people from other cultures (many Asians) are masking inside and out. It is obvious who is ruining our lives.

(16,702 posts)simply don't care about anything except their world and that of like-minded cretins. If we start to stop them, which we absolutely should, it will be very ugly. But a famous man once said: "I welcome their hatred." That is the leadership required today IMHO. There is no bo-partisanship anymore. Ship sailed when 45 and Moscow Mitch blew it up. And of course they are just the visible front men for the 40 year or more crusade to take us back to the good old days of the mid 1800's. Delusional, yes, but the billionaires have brought us here through decades of a vengeful, incremental effort to subvert democracy and change the laws. They don't like uppity women and POC voting and earning real money and they sure as hell don't like or want LGBT, limits on their planetary destruction or any forms of protest, while they execute as many laws as possible to "keep them in their place," indebted and without the basic rights of the last 100 years. I really think it is good vs. evil on a national, if not global scale. I take no joy in saying or feeling any of this, BTW. But if people show you who they are, believe them.

(989 posts)COVIDiots are being coddled now.
The question here is...why the kid-glove treatment? What purpose does it serve?
Why are those of us who have been doing all of the right things just expected to just carry the entire nation without so much as a thank you and an acknowledgment of our sacrifices?
