Anyone hear about that South Carolina lawyer who was shot months after his family was murdered

So I was perusing CNN’s website and saw this story on him and thought the whole thing was strange. It was about him checking himself into rehab and resigning from his law firm after being shot and being accused of embezzling money.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/07/us/alex-murdaugh-south-carolina-attorney-rehab/index.html

So I did some googling on his name and the story got even stranger. Not only was his wife and son murdered months earlier, but the family is tied to three other deaths….this is like one of those 1990’s true story murder mystery movies that the networks use to air.

This panoramic tale of Savannah, Georgia's eccentricities focuses on a murder and the subsequent trial of James Arthur Williams (Kevin Spacey): self made man, art collector, antiques dealer, bon vivant, and semi-closeted homosexual. John Kelso (John Cusack) a magazine reporter, finds himself in Savannah amidst the beautiful architecture and odd doings to write a feature on one of William's famous Christmas parties. He is intrigued by Williams from the start, but his curiosity is piqued when he meets Jim's violent, young and sexy lover, Billy Hanson (Jude Law). Later that night, Billy is dead, and Kelso stays on to cover the murder trial. Along the way, he encounters the irrepressible Chablis Deveau (Lady Chablis), a drag queen commedienne, Sonny Seiler (Jack Thompson), lawyer to Williams, whose famous dog, Uga, is the official mascot of the Georgia Bulldogs,
...

meeting every eccentric in Savannah, participating in midnight graveyard rituals, and helping solve the mysteries surrounding Billy's murder, Kelso has his hands full.

Dude killed his family, was embezzling from his firm and asked to step down. He staged the event where he was shot in his head for some sort of sympathy. Now he is going to rehab in an effort to avoid jail.

A prosecution will be forthcoming.

None of this is official, but it does sound familiar, doesn't it? It's like a bad Lifetime movie.

and the murderer was a child, not a married man. I don't understand the parallel.

When they failed to test him for intoxication after a fatal boat crash. They were trying to go through the back door by using the medical blood draw and back calculating - who knows if it would have worked.

Grandpa dying right after the wife and kid were killed should also be looked at even if he was old. A whole bunch of coincidences going on.

Anyone check for powder burns on that superficial head wound?

The untouchable family ran the prosecutor’s offices in the five counties that make up the Lowcountry while also, incredibly, operating a powerhouse litigation firm, Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth & Detrick, with tentacles in the highest echelons of the red state — despite being Democrats.

...

“When you’re talking about that area of the state,” Proctor said, “it’s a place time has left behind.”

maybe i've watched too many episodes of Forensic Files, but this whole story sounds fishy to me. My prediction is he murdered his wife and kid and faked getting shot.
