Texas won't tolerate Rapists anymore. Nope, rape is against the law. That gig is up now in Texas

Finally Texas has a Governor man enough to admit that rape is illegal, and strong enough to state unequivocally that rapists aren't welcome in Texas. Furthermore, Governor Abbot actually came out and said that he would end rape in Texas. Damn, George W. Bush never said that when he was governor of Texas. It's a new Republican Party alright. Some might quibble and note that Abbott has been Governor of Texas since 2018, and that he should have stopped rape years ago. Hrumph, you just can't please some people. Abbott had other important priorities to attend to first, like stopping people from voting in cars, and ensuring that the Texas power grid remained cut off from the rest of the nation. The important thing is that his words now are clear and decisive. Texas leads the nation in stating that rape is wrong.

to legally define rape so narrowly as to ensure that there are no circumstances where there can be a charge.

Then, like magic, there is no rape....just a lot of traumatized women (and a few men) with no recourse.

If there's no consent requirement, then it's not rape. Problem solved.

And I think some QOP-(mis)governed states reduced the incidence of Covid deaths by not listing it as the cause of death. So clearly Abbott can only be thinking of asking the legislature to strike rape from Texas codes and prohibit local governments from enacting contrary legislation. If there is no such thing as rape as a legally defined criminal act anywhere in the state, then he can look reporters in the eye and sanctimoniously proclaim that arrests for rape dropped to zero. It's perfect 'Con logic

Why didn't we think of this? It's genius! Maybe we could take the same noble approach to murder and speeding on highways? That would surely reduce crime to zero!

I could puke.
