It is very important to have people with different points of view on a city council. When there is groupthink it is harmful to a town. Towns and small cities can wither and die when there aren’t people with some influence who actually believe in progress.

7. I am from a different State originally, been in this city for 21 years though.

Only reason I’m here is because my best friend and her husband moved here, and because we loved them we moved here too. Then my best friend died of cancer. and now…..I got no one who I really even care about. So…..
I’m here and I need something to do. There is an empty spot on the council……so…..am thinking I need to fill the spot. Is that the best reason for running for the empty seat???

The worst thing about campaigns is they go through your life with a microscope. The littlest thing could be made worse then reality. I’ll never run although it’d be rewarding. I’ve had 5 or 6 speeding tickets in my life. Not a big deal at national, but could be made a thing in local.

Was just too dirty for me to make a career of it, but that was just me. I lost by about 5% of 3,700 votes caste. Perhaps that was a good thing.

me? oh hell no. ran twice- won the 1st, student trustee at my college. first one ever. made a little history. 1975. my issue? better student health insurance.

lost the 2nd- pissed off a bunch of visiting teachers at my ward dem party meeting. it was election night, and a bunch of people we never see showed up because the speaker that night was state's atty lisa madigan, who had pissed off the teachers. so they were all there to beat her up.
happens a couple of our regulars were nuns from a catholic school that was turned into a great charter. chatted them up, asked how it was going, and a teacher butted in to the convo. ended up insulting my kids. blew my cork.
13 candidates for 12 seats. guess who got voted off the island?
it would have been my 4th term, but we never had more candidates than seats, so we never had a contest. just installed by acclimation.
i thought it was hilarious, rly. but yeah, no.
i have gifts, but pleasing people isnt rly one of them.
