Please dont get caught up in calling these people names. It diminishes the importance of her work. This young woman simply enters their world, speaks like they do, holds her views without shaming, makes them comfortable and hears why they feel the way they do. Listen to them. I know theyre wrong but listen. And she is amazing!

(95,269 posts)They're regurgitating the lies and propaganda on TV and Facebook
They don't even believe that Trump took the vaccine
Let them die.

(43,850 posts)Mind you I am angry too, though I will never be in the let them die camp while I believe in helping people. But I specifically asked for a different perspective. Its not as though yours doesnt get air.
My visceral response to you when you attack underscores my point, though.

Geez the dumb. The dumb.
Please hold your breath until god speaks to you. . Thanks.

(20,811 posts)but sorry, some of the people she interviewed are dumber than a bag full of hammers.
And they always get back to Donald Trump.
Amazing, that.

(11,919 posts)it's eye-opening, and I travel rural MO & KS a lot. I'm still amazed, and disgusted, by the small-mindedness. Worse is the weak-mindedness that causes those people to feel they need to "wait for god", and believe everything their cult leaders tell them.
I wish I were able to be as polite as she was.

(43,850 posts)DOes DU need constant reinforcement of how theyre stupid and fuck them and Im better and I hope they die
I hear you all when you say that. Is this just a place now for insults and is every thought of doing anything else considered complicity? Is that all DU is now for some?

(106,599 posts)This is a discussion forum. Yes, the reporter did a fine job of getting them to talk, but you can't really expect people to ignore what they said. "Reporter gets people's views" is not surprising; "people refuse free life-protected treatment for reasons that don't make sense" still is.

(8,819 posts)taken precautions, stopped getting our hair cut, spent time taking care of grandchildren and their schooling, missed important family events, dealt with food shortages, worn masks, and gotten vaccines see the level of misinformation and willful ignorance, especially in homage to The Former Guy, it's a little hard to be all sunshine, roses, and forgiveness.
These people are why we are STILL in this mess. These people have politicized it. These people have put the medical community in jeopardy. These people have definitely lost my respect.

(12,557 posts)the reporter interview a nurse on an Anderson Cooper segment - I really like her soft spoken manner.
On a related note, I wish mythology wasn't running the lives of so many people.

(6,477 posts)These people are lazy. They are lazy, they lack a quality of self-discipline, and they have trouble committing to and executing a plan, of persisting in a plan through difficulty. They have built a mythology around themselves as hard workers, but I'd take a junior equities analyst over one of these guys any day of the week when it comes to hard work and stick-to-it-iveness. They are lazy and undisciplined. They have managed to con themselves and a good number of others that their vices of laziness and lack of discipline and self-control is actually a virtue: freedom or liberty. It's all a sham, and COVID is exposing it.

(14,704 posts)It's not as if "they're wrong" about whether a tv show sucks or not.
It's not as if "they're wrong" about whether or not the father of Britney Spears should hold her conservatorship.
It's not as if "they're wrong" about who is the greatest tennis player.
"They're wrong" about an imminent public health issue that is killing our friends and family members and putting all of us at risk. I listened but I will not give them my respect. They don't deserve it. They are killing people!

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
