Former presidential and New York mayoral candidate Andrew Yang is set to launch a third party next month, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Yang is expected to start the party in conjunction with the Oct. 5 release of his new book, "Forward: Notes on the Future of Our Democracy. Its not clear what the name of Yangs third party will be or how he plans to deploy it in 2022 or 2024. Yang and his team did not respond to requests for comment.
But the books publisher, Crown, did give some clues about the type of platform Yang may pursue. It writes that the book is an indictment of Americas era of institutional failure and will introduce us to the various priests of the decline of America, including politicians whose incentives have become divorced from the people they supposedly serve.
The book is blurbed by businessperson Mark Cuban (a vitally important book) and The New York Times Kara Swisher (Can there be another political party in the U.S.?...In Forward, Yang does not just give us a laundry list of intractable problems, but shows how we can find solutions if we think in new ways and summon the courage to do so.).

In our system, all he's doing with a 3rd party is giving Republicans a better chance to gain office.

(24,927 posts)He'll get a lot of positives from Joe Rogan
I think his effect will be a net 0
He'll attract some Reps, some Dems and some aligned with other groups
It'll probably go the way of his mayoral run

He's in it for the fame.

But clearly now, his class privilege is showing. How do I further monetize my social net-worth? AKA eternal campaigning for fun and profit!
He still thinks geek-tech is our way out of this mess, like bringing a cheese grater to WWE --might scratch you, but you're still getting knocked out by your opponent, swinging folding chairs.
we can do it

(41,666 posts)If Andrew Yang is as smart as I think he is, he'll listen to good advice.
Why can't President Biden interest him in doing something positive within the system. There are still a lot of good unfilled positions in the Biden administration. Look at all the great things Pete Buttigieg is doing, Yang can do the same in another field that's equally important.
If he wants to run for Pres again in a few years ... well OK fine. Join the crowd.
