(14,061 posts)From the Today Show through about noon or 1 p.m. If you watched that unfold on TV, as I did, it was upsetting and terrifying years later the same emotions would come straight to the fore with this. That day is seared into my memory.
That is a very, very important part of the historical record for sure
but Im kind of relieved they dont do that anymore.

For 24 years, those towers were part of my daily existence, always on the horizon across the bay.

(102,272 posts)And I heard it (NPR) and watched the coverage (NBC) that day while logged onto DU.
I was already primed to remain transfixed (much to my detriment) by the Columbine shootings in 1999--when I was incapacitated at home after ankle surgery. That hour to hour to hour coverage was addictive but devastating.
I don't know how one walks away from events playing out in real-time--we probably can't and shouldn't, but I don't want to relieve it later on.

(2,220 posts)I still remember much too clearly. A dear friend and her husband survived the WTC attack. It was many hours before we knew they were safe. I dont ever want to relive that day again.

(32,083 posts)The first time was bad enough. I don't care to live through it again. I'll be watching PBS Create today.
