and it is safe and THESE are the options they are taking. Now that is a super duper different kind of stupid. I will take the unproven and risky treatment based on my political place rather than the safe and proven treatment. WTH are these people doing? Really, I know this is something everyone has been asking forever and we all know they are drunk on FOX, OANN etc. but how could this many people be so dangerously stupid to themselves?

Povidone is a water soluble, polymerized pyrrolidone.
It's very water soluble, but not terribly susceptible to enzymatic breakdown. So, it passes through the system pretty easily.
But, Betadine is this molecule, coordinated with iodine & sodium (or potassium) iodide, in equilibrium. (The tertiary nitrogen atoms form a hydroiodide salt.). It is an iodine releaser.
It's the iodine that functions as a microbicide.
But, elevated iodine levels are very hard on the kidneys, and not great for the liver.
On top of that, iodine readily adsorbs through very soft tissues, like the inside of the mouth.
I still don't understand scoping out "cures" the going out to pay for it, in order to avoid a free vaccine.

Though nobody should take my word for that. I wouldn't do either.

I know some scientists thought there might be some potential benefit from gargling with mouth washes early in the pandemic, before there were vaccines. Gargling might have reduced viral loads against the wild variant, maybe. They weren't testing betadiene though, and I'd guess it wouldn't help against delta. I'm probably crazy just for wondering if they might have some reason for their latest inanity, really.

Can't hurt and it actually might reduce the viral load. But there's absolutely no need to compare it to and consider a disinfectant that is intended to be applied topically. Of course, people who are serious weren't testing it for gargling.

It's got mercury in it, which is why you can't get it any more. And it stained everything red, which would be a nice thing for them to ingest because then their mouths would match their hats, at least until they keeled over from mercury poisoning.
