@DanRather The Rule of Trump: No matter how bad you think it is. It's worse. Much worse.

Show and sweet. Rather is spot on. t

I also think that Gen. Milley should gone public with the fact he was trying to protect nuclear weapons from Trump who was mentally deteriorating fast.

from everything he and his followers have put us and the country through. As recently as a month ago, I had night terrors, with my daughter and grandsons trying to wake me up. And what was it centered around? TFG! I think some of the fear, instead of being dealt with was just tamped down as deep as I could get it. I know I sure scared my daughter that night - not to mention my grandsons! "Grandma had bad dream!" the youngest said to me, hugging me...

I'd go even further to say that our penchant for being obsessed with celebrities and their every utterance coupled with reality TV was the slippery slope to anti intellectualism.

I still remember being incensed when all major networks cut away from a Clinton speech because the Trump plane had landed for a rally. The screen showed nothing but the steps of the plane for many minutes, just waiting. He wasn’t even at the rally speaking. All he was going to do was come down the steps and get in a car, and the media thought that was more important than Clinton’s policy speech.

Media treated Trump as a reality TV show and made him a political star. In many ways, they’re still doing it today. They jump to attention and publish his every utterance. It is the media that helps keep him in the limelight and keeps the possibility for him to run again in 2024 alive.

Our notion of good “teevee” would never match that of the MAGAT notion of good TV. To me, Trump is so repulsive as a human being that I don’t even want to see a photo of him, much less an entire television broadcast of him.

HRC was giving her economics & jobs platform speech. They cut away to show an empty podium for nearly 15 minutes.
Clinton's speech took only 11 or 12 more minutes.
They could have carried the climax of her speech and still had 2-3 minutes of empty podium.
But, they ignored a major policy speech to show nothing.

Amused To Death
Doctor Doctor what is wrong with me
This supermarket life is getting long
What is the heart life of a colour TV
What is the shelf life of a teenage queen
Ooh western woman
Ooh western girl
News hound sniffs the air
When Jessica Hahn goes down
He latches on to that symbol
Of detachment
Attracted by the peeling away of feeling
The celebrity of the abused shell the belle
Ooh western woman
Ooh western girl
And the children of Melrose
Strut their stuff
Is absolute zero cold enough
And out in the valley warm and clean
The little ones sit by their TV screens
No thoughts to think
No tears to cry
All sucked dry
Down to the very last breath
Bartender what is wrong with me
Why am I so out of breath
The captain said excuse me ma'am
This species has amused itself to death
Amused itself to death
Amused itself to death
We watched the tragedy unfold
We did as we were told
We bought and sold
It was the greatest show on earth
But then it was over
We ohhed and aahed
We drove our racing cars
We ate our last few jars of caviar
And somewhere out there in the stars
A keen-eyed look-out
Spied a flickering light
Our last hurrah
And when they found our shadows
Grouped around the TV sets
They ran down every lead
They repeated every test
They checked out all the data on their lists
And then the alien anthropologists
Admitted they were still perplexed
But on eliminating every other reason
For our sad demise
They logged the explanation left
This species has amused itself to death
No tears to cry no feelings left
This species has amused itself to death

I know two men who had abusive childhoods at the hands of their fathers - psychological and physical abuse. They spoke of Trump like a child looking at a daddy figure with hope and trust. It was as if they identified with Trump as someone who had also had a psychologically abusive father, or as an abusive figure who now had the power to do "good things" that would make up for their childhood abuse. It was like a form of denial. "Yeah, my father was strict and tough but that's the way life is and he prepared me for it because he loved me."

So they all had a hunch trump would try something stupid, and they sat back and watched. Question: WHY ARE THEY ALLOWING HIM TO HOLD A RALLY IN WASHINGNTON DC ON 18 SEP IN THE SAME PLACE THE JAN 6 INSURRECTION TOOK PLACE? WHY IS THE MEDIA NOT ASKING THIS QUESTION? A very good question.

He attempted to overthrow a democratic election and they let him right back in to try again.

This is nuts. They destroyed facilities that are still not fully repaired and they pat the guy on the back and say go ahead, try again.

The same groups that destroyed government property are going to be there. Why are the powers that be ok with it? He can have his rally anywhere else. He should not be allowed to destroy our government buildings again.

And no doubt he did that just so they would ask the question -- over and over again. It was all part of the scheme to put firmly in people's minds that the election results "could" be invalidated.

And we have to remember -- Trump did not do this all by himself.

At least not at the time. He wasn't the only one who saw Trump as unstable and dangerous. According to the Woodward & Costa book, Mitch McConnell discouraged Biden from calling Trump post-election, because he feared Trump would flip out and do something drastic. Milley speaking out about the situation probably would have exacerbated the situation even more. Like Dan Rather pointed out, things were likely WAY worse than we'll ever know. It's easy to armchair quarterback, especially in hindsight, but most people have little clue as the actual situation, beyond what is in some book==one that has not been release yet, beyond a few excerpts.

Penn Jillette had almost the same words to say about Drumpf, based on his experience on Celebrity Apprentice. Oddly, Junior said to him "Of all the people that have been on the show over the years, you're the only one that actually likes my father."

It wasn't exactly that - PJ just appreciates people that can turn off their filters and just say what they're thinking. More of a sociology seminar than a friendly interaction. But I digress.

On a podcast, he said "No matter how bad you think he is, he's actually worse." He described him as being venal, shallow, egotistical and more, and, of course, the "contest" was fixed. PJ was told that there was no way he was going to win, because he wouldn't kiss the ring.

But his commentating on a PPV fighting event on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 shows how shallow he is. In what would be a non challenge for no belt with the main event being a clown show of washed up 40 year old former MMA champion Haye against former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield was just ridiculous.
The 40 year old Haye was the pup fighting a 58 year old Holyfield. The fight was to be held in Los Angeles but California refused to sanction the bout because of Holyfield's age and the fact that he hadn't fought in ten years. Oscar de la Hoya was supposed to fight also but he's 48 and retired when Manny knocked him out 13 years ago.
And The Dotard spent a good deal of his time talking about all the champions he'd known and how highly they thought of him. Glassy eyed Donny Jr. was also there, no doubt drawing a salary he didn't deserve. Course Daddy didn't deserve one either.
Guess these "billionaires" need every buck they can grub.
At the age of 96, Jimmy Carter was the only President and former President who didn't have a public ceremony. His ceremony was private and no doubt as sincere as the man himself.

Some will say doing that is going to far. It’s not. It’s accurate. Hey the republican party never stops calling us commies, socialist, Libs etc. it’s about time we started referring to the Republicans as the American Nazi Party because that is everything they are about.

Obviously this is wishful thinking but maybe over time people will see the Republican party for what it has become. They were always a bunch of self centered assholes, but this runaway pursuit of a facist society and all it’s horrible components is bad news.
