Pelosi told Milley Trump should have been 'arrested on the spot' for inciting Jan. 6 insurrection.

Pelosi told top general Trump should have been ‘arrested on the spot’ for inciting Capitol insurrection, new book says

by Dan Mangan
CNBC, September 14, 2021

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told the top U.S. Army general that then-President Donald Trump was a “dictator” who “should have been arrested on the spot” after what she called his coup attempt to remain in the White House by inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection, a new book reveals.

Pelosi also said during a phone call in January with Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mike Milley that “the Republicans have blood on their hands” for enabling Trump’s delusions about his ability to retain the presidency, the book says.

“But it is a sad state of affairs for our country that we’ve been taken over by a dictator who used force against another branch of government,” Pelosi, a California Democrat, told Milley during the call several days after the riot, according to “Peril,” a new book by Washington Post journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.

Pelosi on Trump: ‘With him, all roads lead to Putin’

Members of Congress seek answers on reports about Russian bounties on U.S. soldiers

By RISHIKA DUGYALA
06/28/2020 10:50 AM EDT
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday blasted the president for being beholden to the Russian government, following a startling New York Times report that Russia secretly offered bounties to Taliban fighters to kill U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

“Just as I have said to the president: With him, all roads lead to Putin,” Pelosi said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin. “I don't know what the Russians have on the president, politically, personally, or financially.”

Steven Mnuchin’s Mysterious Link to Creepy Epstein Model Scout

The Treasury secretary’s name shows up on official records for a company formed in the 1980s by Jeffrey Epstein’s close friend, the model scout Jean-Luc Brunel.

Emily Shugerman
Daily Beast, Gender Reporter, Updated 09.16.19 7:57AM ET, Published 09.15.19

In the late 1980s—before he was a member of Donald Trump’s Cabinet, or even a high-rolling hedge-fund manager—Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin served in an official capacity for a business run by one of Jeffrey Epstein’s most infamous associates.

In official records, Mnuchin is listed as the official state point of contact for Next Management Corporation, a company formed in 1988 by modeling-industry insiders Jean-Luc Brunel and Arnaud Brunel. At the time, Jean-Luc Brunel had just been the subject of a 60 Minutes documentary accusing him of drugging and raping at least three models. Later, he would be accused by two women of supplying girls to Epstein to be sexually abused. (Brunel has denied the allegations.)

Records accessed by The Daily Beast list Mnuchin as the New York Department of State process for Next Management Corporation. According to department officials, the DOS process is the person who files a company’s registration papers and receives lawsuits and other official documents on their behalf—usually a lawyer or some other legal representative.

Snip...

Mnuchin’s office did confirm that he was longtime friends with Faith Kates, the owner of the Next modeling agency. The Brunel brothers co-founded the Next agency with Kates in 1989, and their company, Next Management Corp., owned a 25 percent stake in the agency for several years. The address listed under Mnuchin’s name in the state department records is the first address for Kates’ company, Next Management Company.

Peaceful protesters don’t come equipped with zip ties, bear spray, bulletproof vests, a noose to hang the Vice President, and other paraphernalia to use as weapons!

We need to get the corporate money and influence out of NPR by providing government funding so they can go back to being a neutral news source. Most of the other broadcast media is just leading us down the road to totalitarianism.

I am listening to them less because I can't stomach some of their coverage. They have gone overboard in depicting Biden as incompetent and bungling over Afghanistan. I have not heard any in depth coverage from NPR on the background of Biden's decision or how TFG created the problem of getting people out by refusing to process applications. I have not heard NPR give attention to TFG's deal with the Taliban to let them take over the country. They have not covered the corruption of warlords who took US money as bribes and then dealt on the side with Taliban leaders and had no commitment to the Afghan government.

They consistently portray the airlift as a failed and chaotic operation. They hype up "expert" opinions that Biden has put national security in jeopardy by pulling out of Afghanistan and emphasize fear that Al Qaida will launch more terrorist attacks on the US.

I have not heard them excuse the 1/6 terrorists as protesters. They have usually been emphatic about TFG's lies about election fraud. I have usually heard the attackers refered to as insurrectionists on NPR. But it does not surprise me to hear that they would soft pedal it now. Generally, though, NPR supports the Republican establishment wing of the party (Bush, Cheney) over the Trumpist wing.

I will never donate to NPR again. There is a small, independent, liberal radio station in my region, within my listening range. They occasionally carry liberal leaning NPR programs. They also carry Amy Goodwin and a lot of independent news and commentators. They get my donations now.

That's where his narcissism originally stemmed from. When Fred saw that his oldest son wasn't going to follow in his footsteps, he began grooming his next oldest son to do so. From that time on, little Donnie was the Golden Child who could do no wrong in his father's eyes. He could and did get away with anything and everything, and his 2 sisters and younger brother went along with it, because to do otherwise would have meant defying Fred Almighty.

I'm very clear on that part of the story, thanks to Mary Trump’s book. How he managed to continue getting away with so much after Fred was gone, all the way up to becoming president and using the powers of the office in all sorts of nefarious ways -- well, that part escapes me!

A mob of domestic terrorists were directed by the President of the United States to Congress in order to stop the counting of the vote by the People. In effect, the executive branch attacked the legislative branch. Donald J Trump is a traitor.

Trump Told Crowd ‘You Will Never Take Back Our Country With Weakness’

As Congress prepared to certify the victory of his successor, President Trump railed against the election and helped set in motion hours of violence.

Maggie Haberman
The New York Times, Jan. 6, 2021

Excerpt...

“We want to be so respectful of everybody,” Mr. Trump said, before calling his political opponents bad people. “And we are going to have to fight much harder. And Mike Pence is going to have to come through for us, and if he doesn’t, that will be a sad day for our country. Because you’re sworn to uphold our Constitution.”

Calling the outcome of the election “this egregious assault on our democracy,” he said his supporters should “walk down to the Capitol. And we are going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and we are probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them. Because you will never take back our country with weakness.”

Mr. Trump did not in fact travel with the supporters he urged to go fight for him; he returned to the White House, and berated aides about how the scene had appeared, before taking to Twitter to attack Mr. Pence for his stand.

Before Mr. Trump took the stage, his personal lawyer, Rudolph W. Giuliani, addressed the crowd and called for “trial by combat” against the Democrats to win the election.

"WASHINGTON — Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley placed two phone calls to his Chinese counterpart in the waning months of Donald Trump’s presidency to secretly reassure Beijing that the United States would not attack the country, a spokesman for Milley confirmed Wednesday.

The calls were first reported in the forthcoming book “Peril” by Washington Post journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.

“His calls with the Chinese and others in October and January were in keeping with these duties and responsibilities conveying reassurance in order to maintain strategic stability,” said the spokesman, Col. Dave Butler.

All of Milley’s calls were coordinated with the rest of the Department of Defense and other relevant agencies, Butler added.

Milley did not tell Trump about the calls."

From Just Security.org:

Retired Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who testified against Trump during Trump’s first impeachment trial, is calling for Milley’s resignation. Vindman tweeted on Tuesday that if the revelations in the new book “Peril” are true that Miley must resign. “He usurped civilian authority, broke Chain of Command, and violated the sacrosanct principle of civilian control over the military,” Vindman tweeted. “It’s an extremely dangerous precedent. You can’t simply walk away from that,” he added. Dominick Mastrangelo reports for The Hill.

Milley defends calls to Chinese as effort to avoid conflict

by Jonathan Lemire
Washington Post, September 15, 2021

WASHINGTON (AP) — The top U.S. military officer on Wednesday defended the phone calls he made to his Chinese counterpart in the turbulent final months of Donald Trump’s presidency, saying the conversations were intended to convey “reassurance” to the Chinese military and were in line with his responsibilities as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Snip…

In a written statement, Milley’s spokesman, Col. Dave Butler, said Milley acted within his authority as the most senior uniformed adviser to the president and to the secretary of defense.

Snip…

“His calls with the Chinese and others in October and January were in keeping with these duties and responsibilities conveying reassurance in order to maintain strategic stability,” Butler said. “All calls from the chairman to his counterparts, including those reported, are staffed, coordinated and communicated with the Department of Defense and the interagency.”

The Milley phone calls were described in excerpts from the forthcoming book “Peril” by Washington Post journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa. The book says Milley told Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People’s Liberation Army that he would warn his counterpart in the event of a U.S. attack.

BTW: Chris Miller was an appointed, temporary SecDef, on Nov. 9, 2021. He never was approved by the Senate. A combat special forces vet, he worked on Trump’s NSC and in other offices.

The reports looked like complete chaos at the Capitol. They delayed the certification of the Electoral College. If things had continued as Trump seems to have wanted, Pence, Pelosi and a number of other elected leaders would be held hostage or worse. Despite the evidence to the contrary, Trump supporters blamed “Antifa” and BLM.

The insurrectionist mob and resultant TV coverage almost served to give the Drumpf Administration the needed pretext for calling out the Army and declaring martial law under the Insurrection Act. If that had happened, who knows where we’d be today?

The right-wing media is helping Trump destroy democracy. A new poll shows how.

by Greg Sargent
Washington Post opinion, 16 September 2021

When future historians seek to explain the United States’ perilous slide toward authoritarianism in the 21st century, they will grapple with the role played in all these events by Fox News and the right-wing media. Simply put, those actors are helping Donald Trump and his movement threaten democracy, in a way that will likely continue getting worse.

A new poll from the Public Religion Research Institute demonstrates in a fresh way just how responsible those bad-faith media actors are for what we’re seeing right now. And this raises anew the question of how much damage they will do over the long haul.

The poll’s big finding is that people who rely heavily on Fox News and other right-wing media are overwhelmingly more likely to believe the election was stolen from Trump — and are overwhelmingly less likely to blame Trump for the insurrection — than those who do not.

Snip…

At my request, PRRI cut the data and provided me with these findings:

* Among Americans who most trust Fox News or those far-right news sources, a stunning 76 percent believe the election was stolen. By contrast, of those who most trust those other sources, only 21 percent believe this.

* Among Americans who most trust Fox News or those far-right news sources, only 12 percent say Trump gets a lot of blame for the Jan. 6 riot. And 64 percent blame liberal or left-wing activists, such as antifa.

Continues…

They look at it as though the minute they went (back then), or now go after Trump (and it would be done in completely by the book way) they are guaranteeing the Rethugs will go after Biden or the next Dem POTUS, and likely not in a by the book way.

If (odds are pretty good they do) the Rethugs take back the House in 2022, Biden will be impeached within months. Of course, he will not be convicted in the Senate, even if the Rethugs win control back there (odds are 50/50 atm), but it is likely the House Rethugs may just impeach him again, say summer 2024, trying to fuck up the 2024 general.

I think it may well be that as long as there is a Dem POTUS and a Rethug controlled House, you will see impeachment after impeachment. They want to render it meaningless as much as they can, so that when a Rethug POTUS once again actually does something worthy of impeachment and removal, the very process is looked up as a toothless joke.

Throughout history, supremely privileged or sometimes only power hungry yet insane rulers have ascended to head of state. Everybody knows it at the time, but no one can do anything about it. I doubt we can strengthen our 25th Amendment without injecting partisanship into the process, which sets up the process for abuse by the dominant party. Our system however limited and flawed worked well enough, quietly behind the scenes to balance the interests of the State with the ruler, with the help of those high in power performing high level functions. This type of stuff happens in corporations too. Sometimes the BOD has to oust the CEO. Usually it's related to unsound business practices that threaten the financial stability of the company, but there have been crooks, scoundrels, and criminals too.
