The DOJ failed to uncover ,before it happened , Putin and his puppets 2016 election rigging , which put him into office illegally. Why isn't the puppet already behind bars? How much longer can this be ignored before it escalates ? If it's much longer the wrong people are over it, and need to be replaced. We need results, not excuses. We also need the truth, all of it, and the truth about their failure uncovering it much sooner. This is ridiculous a former guy threatening us with domestic terrorism, and always siding with terrorist against us. Sorry for ranting, but it's gone on too long, and many are still walking the streets , instead of facing real consequences for all their crimes. Am I the only one getting pissed about this?

(11,885 posts)Putin wanted revenge , and compromised his puppet spending a billion or more to create chaos, and undermine our government. Also his army of hackers have infiltrated large area's of our infrastructure systems , and likely a lot more than we know. Also his puppet had his campaign manager give putins spy polling data , and more. I think Putin had this planned , and drawn up from Russian think tanks, the GRU, the FSB, and himself to get revenge to hurt us, and his puppet was used to help him accomplish his goals when he has the chance. He was KGB, and a terrorist .

(32,620 posts)Putin just really, REALLY hated Hillary and Obama.
Also he recognized that Chump is a useful idiot on an epic scale.
But as with most conspiracy theories, there's nothing anyone can say that will move people off their belief that a conspiracy was behind something.

(1,142 posts)The U.S. intelligence community developed substantial evidence that state websites or voter registration systems in seven states were compromised by Russian-backed covert operatives prior to the 2016 election but never told the states involved, according to multiple U.S. officials.
Top-secret intelligence requested by President Barack Obama in his last weeks in office identified seven states where analysts synthesizing months of work had reason to believe Russian operatives had compromised state websites or databases.
Three senior intelligence officials told NBC News that the intelligence community believed the states as of January 2017 were Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Texas and Wisconsin.
... The officials say systems in the seven states were compromised in a variety of ways, with some breaches more serious than others, from entry into state websites to penetration of actual voter registration databases.
Another story about Russian Hacking
https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2019/12/26/did-russia-really-hack-2016-election-088171
Russian hackers targeted the Florida election company VR Systems as part of its campaign to disrupt the 2016 election, possibly opening a gateway to compromise voting on Election Day. Three years later, there are still a lot of unanswered questions about what occurred. We've put together a timeline to track what we know occurred and what is still unknown.
2016
March-April: Russian hackers attack Hillary Clintons campaign, the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. May: The DNC and DCCC learn about the attack and discover theft of thousands of emails.
June: The hackers release some of the emails and documents and begin targeting state boards of elections, breaching Illinois voter registration database. The FBI privately warns state election boards about potential attacks against voter-registration databases.
June 14: The Washington Post breaks the DNC hack story.
Mid-July: Hackers steal data on 500,000 Illinois voters.
Aug. 15: Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson tells state election officials in a phone call about cyber threats against election-related sites. Aug. 18: The FBI issues a flash alert about suspicious web traffic from eight IP addresses. It doesnt mention Russia
Aug. 24: Russian hackers send phishing emails to VR Systems, based in Tallahassee, Florida.
Aug. 30: VR Systems experiences an election-reporting mishap during the state primary in Broward County, Fla., when preliminary vote totals get posted live before the election ends.

(5,554 posts)I work in IT for a regional bank, we have relentless constant intrusion attempts from China, Russia, and others. I've seen this at previous jobs as well - in one case they did successfully gain entry into a test server. They copied down the entire database of dummy test data.
The point is these types of intrusion efforts happen continually to every major internet connected server, not just election related ones.

(1,142 posts)IN Durham the actual election day on 2016 there were issues that directly impacted voters, the delays caused people to leave the polls without voting, you don't see how that impacted results?
There is also this story
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/04/19/actually-mueller-report-showed-that-russia-did-affect-vote/
It may be and appears to be true that Russia didnt manipulate actual voting results, changing a countys pro-Clinton votes into pro-Trump ones. Perhaps the Oct. 7 warning played a role in that success. But Russias efforts absolutely affected the vote, as they were intended to and as Trump and his campaign hoped they would.
How? Well, those Podesta emails for one. Mueller's indictments against a number of alleged Russian intelligence agents details how they accessed the Democratic National Committee network and Podesta's email account (among other targets) and transferred the data to WikiLeaks. There, the stolen material became a central component of the election coverage for much of the last month.
In October 2017, we made this graphic, showing how often WikiLeaks was mentioned on cable news, compared to former FBI director James B. Comey (whose last-minute announcement about Clintons email server certainly affected the results)
I don't think the Russian election systems hacking was ever fully investigated either
https://foreignpolicy.com/2019/07/25/scope-of-russian-election-hacking-remains-unclear/
According to the report, the Russian effort involved attacks on U.S. election infrastructure, which include voting systems and the state government agencies that administer U.S. elections. All this was part of a stealthy campaign to sow division among the American electorate in an effort to vault then-candidate Donald Trump into the Oval Office.
Senate investigators determined that 21 states were targeted by the Russian attacks on voting systems, which began in 2014 and continued into at least 2017. In one case, those attacks succeeded in breaching a state voter database, and investigators also gathered evidence that all 50 states may have been targeted. But whether that actually occurred remains unknown.

(5,554 posts)An actual effort to tamper with the overall outcome would take a whole lot more than just that - and if a major foreign government was behind it, with resources available they certainly could have done a lot more than messing with Durham NC to cause some voters to get frustrated and leave.

(1,142 posts)I think we are going to just have to agree to disagree, the hacking of Podesta's emails alone and then release of those emails subsequently definitely had a national impact on the election

(211 posts)you do realize that it would not make a damn bit of difference to Trumpers. They will just continue to think the whole system is rigged and he is just being targeted by a vast left-wing conspiracy. Then, they will throw the whole weight of their support behind DickSantis, because he is the only asshole who can out-asshole the asshole.

(28,246 posts)You think his brain-dead followers worship him now? Wait until you see what they do if their lord and master is allowed to get away with it all. Which, I regret to say, is how I see it coming down at this point. I am so fucking glad that present-day Democratic leadership had no influence in how the Nuremburg war trials turned out.
I think the younger generation dems see what we're up against & they're ready to kick some repub butt. I think the old guard, however, is having issues coming to grips with the fact that their colleagues across the aisle, who they've worked with for decades, are now enablers of fascism.

(9,963 posts)Nothing done about it. There is no need for more evidence, it has been collected already. By now, I conclude that nothing ever will be done with those charges, nor will Trump face repercussions over January 6. It is now up to New York to investigate and prosecute, but even there I have doubts about whether Trump personally, versus the Trump Organization, will be held liable for anything. Trump has been careful over the years to use mob talk for his orders so he is never on record as ordering a specific illegal action. He just tells people to take care of things and they perfectly understand that he wants to commit insurance or tax fraud.

(1,849 posts)That's what this is. I remember reading that "we/they knew" beforehand of the putin connection.
Lot's of evidence, but nothing was done with it. What was known and when? Who was involved?
I actually remember reading something about Obama, and how he didn't allow this to be publicized but it was known. Imagine if he'd come out and said foreign interests were trying to influence our elections! Some would have called for a suspension of elections. The insurrection might have happened 4 years earlier.
Because the DOJ functions independently in democratic administrations, they should have pursued this vigorously. But once 45 was elected, the DOJ became compromised. The damage was done. And then more damage happened.
Yes, they cheated. More evidence may be revealed down the line, and it's my biggest wish that 45 will be found to be a false president one day, his supreme court appointees will be removed and he will be removed from the list of US presidents.

(7,603 posts)The apparent lack of accountability and consequences makes activism look like a futile self-deception. I understand there is real fear of a violent reaction to the trial and incarceration of tfg and his associates, but it is a price that needs to be paid. Our society is too sick and broken to be fixed without trauma.
