Auburn/Penn State game. The stadium. Packed like sardines.
I get it that untold many are sick of the 'life' that coronavirus has imposed on our country. But it made me shudder to actually see this. I knew it was happening, but to actually view the attendees all crammed in.
I pray day and night, God have mercy and rescue us, please!

Less trouble that way.

(22,591 posts)Personally, I would have voted to hide it.
I'm just so freaking tired of seeing snide comments like that one at DU from people who look down their noses at anyone who believes in a God or even thinks there just might possibly be something out there that is beyond human understanding. Atheists frequently complain about the intolerance they encounter due to their views, and I tend to synpathize... but I really don't understand why some of them are so quick to target others with their own brand of intolerance.
Seems a bit hypocritical to me. But what do I know? I'm just one of those stupid people who believe in an imaginary skydaddy. (Actually, I don't believe in THAT, but I'm no an atheist, either, so according to some atheists, I am stupid nonetheless.)

(43,049 posts)I agree that some atheists push too hard and just get nasty. I was a Quaker for years, and am now an elder in a UU congregation, so my personal theology is a bit mixed up. Einstein summed it up by saying that if the universe was created, then we may assume a creator. He never did claim to know who or what that creator is or was. That's pretty much where I am.
Einstein also spoke highly of the spirituality both in the Jewish community of his youth and the Catholic schools he went to. He had no use for the mythology, but the children's tales are only the smallest part of any religion.
Live and let live. I only get my hackles up when someone claims to have the one true answer and wants to fight about it.

(43,049 posts)We are a species with the ability to wonder, and that ability takes us to strange places. If those places include, or exclude, a deity, those beliefs do not normally deserve ridicule.
Granted that some beliefs are ridiculous, but if sincere are just best walked away from... slowly. Where it gets troubling is when those beliefs become enforced.
Inquisitions, witch burnings, expulsion and killing of nonbelievers... these are the things that are intolerable.

(41,637 posts)We were all raised differently. Some grew up with a strict religious background, others not so strict. Some have almost no religious training. I have no right to judge you or anybody else, just because you don't believe the same things I do.
Some of us use God or Jesus or Angels as figures of speech. It's just a habit or something they grew up with, but why make a federal case out of it?
Some DUers are unnecessarily pedantic and bitchy. I just have to take a breath and walk it off. If I don't I might post something I'll regret later.

(22,346 posts)I don't watch any football. Used to glance at it when husband had games on.
This stage of the game, just with the stupid virus still wreaking havoc, many are saying the hell with it and are participating in activities that were curtailed. I don't know how to feel about all of this. Have ambivalence kinda. But it does bother me some.
Edit: the google sez they call for all Pitt fans to wear white to be intimidating. I guess any people wearing a color will stick out like a sore thumb. Huh.

(73,726 posts)there was a string of, like, 5 games in a row at the end of the season that they had to win.
