Swan song
As I've posted in the past my vision has been deteriorating for the past 3 years. It has now fallen off a cliff, so I'll no longer be posting, and if this is in ragtime, transpose.
I have greatly enjoyed being part of this community off and on since a link to the Top Ten Conservative Idiots at Buzzflash led me here in 2001. In a world and especially on an internet that seemed determined to drag us all down the right wing rabbit hole, DU showed me I wasn't alone, that I wasn't the crazy one. Or maybe I was, but their way is crazier.
I will miss you all, whether or not we agreed with each other.
Just keep fighting the good fight.

So sorry about your eyes. I fear that's to be my fate as well. I was recently diagnosed with the crystals that form with macular, my dad had MD, not looking forward to it.

And in case I never told you...
There are all kinds of increasingly sophisticated transcribing technologies for those with diminished sight. Your state or locale should have an agency that aids those with visual impairment that could help you identify what might best meet your needs. I hope you will look into it and perhaps we will be able to communicate back and forth on DU in the future.
In the meantime, perhaps you might-- on occasion-- call upon a friend or family member to post under your screen name to let us know how you are doing?

Look after yourself
I hope something can help stop or reverse the deterioration so your quality of life doesn't change. I'm wishing the best for you, and hoping you'll find a way to duck in occasionally for a visit.
We will miss you, & as others have said, I hope you can find a way to stop by from time to time & let us know how you're doing.
You have always been one of my favorite DU people and I read your posts all the time.

Maybe you could give the app NVDA a try so you could keep up with friends, news, etc. It’s a free screen reader for windows systems. We use it in our testing for website and forms accessibility at work.

Here’s hoping for a turnaround in your situation.
But if not, I know that sometimes the breaks is just the breaks. (I’m going to be 60 next month and I’m starting to understand and accept certain realities. For me, it’s my ears. Too many rock concerts, too close to the stage.)

As others have said, I do hope you might be able to find some text to speech options to help you stay. Strength to you in all of your struggles and please try to find a way to continue posting.
