many of them have been in Central and South America for years. They decided to come for economic opportunities. They were warned not to come by the Biden Administration. A sad situation for people who've never had a break.

I know they went to central and South America first. Maybe boats? Some have been living away from Haiti for many years. Just now, they wanted to settle in the United States.

and the situation has become untenable, so they decided to move to a place that promises so much more, despite its horrid record against Haiti. They were that desperate.

Officials on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border said most of the migrants were Haitians and more are expected to arrive. Most of the migrants Reuters spoke to had not come direct from Haiti but had made long and harrowing journeys through Mexico and Central and South America.

Several of them told Reuters they followed routes shared amongst each other on WhatsApp.

We have a huge Haitian population here already. Undoubtedly they are sending money home and trying to help friends and relatives escape.

What if the money was funded by RWer's or Repug's to create an embarrassing situation for Biden at the border. If it happened under TFG - that would be the talking point that the Repug's would be touting - only funded by the Liberals and Dems.

Funded by right wing groups for a bad photo op. I suspected that a few years ago when a lot of Central Americans were bused up to make the case for the border wall proposal.

How thousands of Haitian migrants ended up at the Texas border
The Guardian UK
Joe Parkin Daniels and Tom Phillips
Sat 18 Sep 2021 11.30 BST

Gang violence, bloody protests, food and fuel shortages plus natural disasters have spurred many to leave the west’s poorest nation

Link: https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2021/sep/18/haiti-migrants-us-texas-violence

Snips....
For many migrants, crossing the Rio Grande is just the last small step in a circuitous odyssey that stretches across the Caribbean and deep into South America.

Most fly from Haiti to Ecuador, which does not require a visa for Haitian visitors, before either trying to find work in Brazil or Chile, or heading north, crossing the perilous jungles of the Darién Gap and onwards to Central America and Mexico.

At every stage, they are at the mercy of a security forces and organized crime groups which target travelers, and the rickety infrastructure of the people-smuggling business.
----------
Others chose a more direct, but equally treacherous, journey to the US, chancing their life on the high seas. On Monday, the coast guard intercepted a 35-foot boat carrying 103 people, 18 miles off the coast of Florida. They had been at sea for six days.

It sounds like those 12,000 were the few Haitians who could afford to pay for that trip.

Like many migrants and refugees from other nations, they have been mislead (Russia?) to believe the Biden Administration is opening a door to America without due process, which is false. I think Joe has, however, removed cruelty and violations of human rights implemented by tRump.

There is a large Haiti diaspora throughout Central and South America. For instance, my wife's brother (my wife is Haitian) has lived in Chile for over a decade. He has a wife and kids there, and doesn't plan on leaving, although he considered coming to the USA in this manor.

There was a rumor that once Trump was gone, they would be let in. This idea spread virulently throughout the Haitian diaspora's social media. It sounds outrageous, but if you understand the whole story, it's not.

It's a very, very long story, I won't go into here, but here's the gist. Before Trump, immigration moved at a slow but steady pace. You could apply for asylum or a visa, and it took awhile, but eventually your case would get processed. After Trump took office, those processes ground to a halt. A process that once took 6 months, now takes about 3 or 4 years (or so they say, when they give a confirmation). A lot of this is because Trump gutted the offices and fired a lot of people. Also, it was do to a change of ....let's just say attitude. They started denying a higher percentage for no real reason.

Well now that Trump's gone, the theory is, things will go back to the way it was. It hasn't however, those people have not been rehired, and it appears that the denials are still the same. Trump screwed it up so much that nothing's changed since Biden took office.

So all these people who were waiting for Trump to lose, decided to take their chance, and unfortunately the system wasn't ready for them, because of how bad Trump screwed it up. Again, they were already in Central and South America; nobody flew them there recently.

things would change when TFG was out of office. That way they can create border incidents (really they should shoulder the blame) but then blame in all on Biden.

TFG left all these minefields all over many government offices - just to plant incidents that they then could take advantage of - and use as material in future campaigns - like in 2022 and 2024.

Biden should appoint a group of WH Staffers to look into all those changes that TFG made to government offices and do everything to clean out TFG's people and put in Biden people.

That to me - should be a priority.
